orgasm causing bleeding?? help.

This is my first I am 7 weeks pregnant and My husband and I were messing around the other night and I had a pretty strong orgasm and during my husband noticed that there was blood on his hands. Probably tmi, but he never really put his fingers inside of me to tear/poke me to cause the bleeding. I was just wondering if this was normal and if anyone has experienced this as well? The bleeding didn't last long, but still has me worried because it was bright red and looked like quite a but on his hands.

Re: orgasm causing bleeding?? help.

  • According to my midwife, bleeding from sex is normal. During orgasm, it softens the cervix which can cause bleeding due to our pregnant selves have an increased blood volume. Of course, this isn't medical advice and if you're concerned you should call your care provider. But there have been several women on here who have told similar stories so I'm sure some of the women on here can reassure you. It is most likely nothing serious if you stopped bleeding fairly shortly after.

  • You're still reallllly early so it's most likely leftover implantation bleeding.
I'm sure the girls in your birth group are having similar issues. We had a lot of spotting posts for a while with similar stories.
Try not to worry. Good luck!

  • I was at the dr last week and mentioned the same thing. He said that although it can be normal, he doesn't like to see blood, so to abstain from sex for two weeks. I think what pp said sounds like great advice too. I would not freak out and just mention it to your dr or midwife at the next appointment. Good luck!

  • Thank y'all so much for the reassurance. We figured it was due to having more blood volume, but I needed to hear if other women have had the same issue. I haven't had any cramping or anything since so I'm going to chill.
  • My doctor told me that I may experience spotting after sex or an internal exam due to the cervix being extra sensitive from the higher levels of estrogen. Some women also experience cervical ectopy where the cells usually found on the inside of the cervix extend to the outside, and because these cells are more sensitive, they are more prone to bleeding. I had one instance of spotting around 5 weeks and three days worthy of spotting at 8 weeks after my Pap smear/internal exam. I went in to get checked out after the three days of spotting just to make sure everything was ok, and this was when she mentioned I had the cervical ectopy which could cause spotting after internal exams or sex. I had an ultrasound just to ease my mind and baby was just fine! I'm now 14 weeks and haven't had any spotting since. We've also been careful to only have "gentle sex," only because I'm a bit nervous about spotting and don't want to freak myself out again!
  • I had a similar experience the first time I bled and continued to have a few more experiences like it...never as much blood as that first time though. After the most recent episode, it was decided that I have a friable cervix with a lot of blood vessels around the area which can cause frequent bleeding. Everything is fine with baby however! You could be experiencing something similar! I was about 6 or 7 weeks tr first time.
