Trying to Get Pregnant

Charting/opk/temp dip???

Ok so I got my first +opk on Thursday morning at 10am (my usual test time) but got a -opk at 8pm (again usual test time). This morning when I took my temp I had a noticeable dip. Does that mean I ovulated already or am about to ovulate? We did do it last night and this morning just to try to cover our bases but hoping we didn't miss our window. And of course in the chaos of leaving the house this morning I forgot to grab my test strip to test today. So I'm a little lost.

Re: Charting/opk/temp dip???

  • You cannot rely on a dip to tell you that you are going to ovulate.  It only happens some of the time.  With temps, the only thing to look for is a sustained rise in temperature, which fertility friend defines as 3 temps that are higher than the previous 6.  Temps cannot tell you when you are about to ovulate.

When you get a positive opk, it means you MIGHT ovulate in the next 12 to 48 hours.  So you might ovulate Thursday, Friday, Saturday or may be even Sunday.  Or you might not ovulate at all from that particular LH surge.  Keep having sex until you get the temp rise.  Here's a tip: you only need to have sex every day OR every other day.  Every day is only slightly more successful than every other day.  Personally, I wouldn't do it every 12 hours because it might negatively affect the amount of sperm.  Of course, my husband has had low sperm counts in the past.  For most people I'm sure it's fine.  But, generally, more than every 24 hours is not necessary.

The best timing is the day before ovulation or two days before ovulation.  Sex on ovulation day is not nearly as good as those two prior days.

It also looks like you are only charting to the .1 degree - are you using a BBT thermometer or a regular fever thermometer?

  • I got a BBT from amazon but I don't remember what brand it is. Thanks ladies, I think I will get my crosshairs on Monday looking back at my previous charts. Just confusing because this is the first month I paid close attention to CM, so I'm getting confused.
