progesterone

I remember in your early pregnancy boards mentioning allot about progesterone supplements/tablets/injections. I'm 6+5 and my progesterone is on the low side and they are starting me on tablets. Have any of you had success getting this far with supplements?

Re: progesterone

  • Your penetrating is low?! Lol I'm sorry I had to giggle on that one. I took pills.. Up till 13 weeks.. Bled once... So far so good though :)

  • Lol yeah I guess I would have laughed too. At least you knew what I meant. Thank you.
  • I was doing injections with ivf and am now 28 weeks. Sorry, I know it's not tablets, but if you should get switched over, the shots do work. Also, I believe it's around week 11 or 12 where the placenta takes over making your progesterone for you. I would aim to make it that far then see how things are going and whether you should continue on supplements :). I'm sure your doctor will keep a good eye on you!
  • The doctor told me to only take them until I'm 12weeks. I have to wait till tomorrow to get them, my doctor has to call my insurance and prerequest. The pharmacy said they can't even order the suppository and is going to call my doctor and ask about the pill. My insurance won't cover injections and I can't afford them. Hopefully they'll figure it out tomorrow so I can get started.
  • My insurance only covered the injections if they were in sesame oil which I developed an allergy to about halfway through. The replacement was in olive oil and we had to pay out of pocket which was sooooo expensive. I then started getting huge lumps from that so the last two weeks I was on the suppositories. My doctors office was actually able to give me samples directly from them for free of those. I think the pills will work just fine, but if you find they don't work for you, ask them about samples. It can't hurt!
  • I took suppositories until 13 weeks

Mine were gel caps... I believe it was 90$ a month without insurance.
  • I did the suppoistory (pill) but my doc said I could take it orally. She said that if you take it orally the side effects (nausea) are more extreme. She also said doing the suppoistory is slightly more effective because the progesterone is closer to the cervix. Talk to the pharmacy about a generic version, I only had to pay $15 for a 28 day supply (with insurance). I was on it from the beginning until 12 weeks.
  • @Kdmusgr
My OB prescribed tablets (duphaston) up until 14 weeks as I also had low progesterone.
We extended to 14 weeks just in case I was further behind than I thought as baby was measuring about 1 week behind.

When I stopped the tablets, I weaned it down by half tablets as I was really scared. All was fine until about 18 weeks when I had a big bleed.
My OB gave me a progesterone shot and I took duphaston for another 10 days and the weaned myself off again.

I am 25 weeks today and all seems to be going well.
I was advised to keep some spare duphaston to take in case I have another bleed.
I hope this has been helpful and gives you hope.
Good luck! I hope everything goes well for you :)
  • Oh and I didn't have any side effects whatsoever from the progesterone tablets.

I'm in Alabama but not in Auburn. I am an Auburn fan though and would love to move to Auburn!

  • I get progesterone shots every week since 20 weeks and will get them till 37 weeks. They suck and I'm also on procardia pills every days four times a day. Not fun.
