Bottles

First time mother to be. I have started creating my registry for my baby shower and noticed that there are all kinds of baby bottles. How do you know which should be used?

Definitely an over whelming feeling when you look at all the stuff that a baby needs.

Re: Bottles

  • Honestly, all babies are different. I suggest registering for a few different kinds and seeing what works best for you and baby. I luckily had a very easy first child when it came to bottles. She would take anything. We mainly had Dr. Brown bottles, but even cheapies that we bought to take on vacation did just fine for her.

  • Based on advice like what @babylist said, I registered for a small set of three brands: Avent, Medela and Dr. Brown. But not a lot of any of them, since we don't want to be stuck with a bunch the baby won't take!
  • As a side note to the above posts--stick to brands that have been around for awhile. with DS1 we bought the Similat Smart bottles that were new in 2012 and now they are discontinued. I still have the bottles, but the nipples are unavailable and the sites that do sell them are outrageous...they cost more than a new set of bottles. I've contacted Similac about seeing if they have any in the warehouse, but now word yet. just saying if you plan to have more than one, so that you don't have to go through this too.

  • I used avent with DS and they were great and still around... I will be using again. My son also would use the cheap bottles once he was a little older.
  • My sister swore by the avent bottles, but she also said that it would be a trial and error situation. For my registry tho I did only register for avent bottles, and only a small combo pack at that. If those don't work I'll buy a couple of different ones as I try them going along.

I registered for these exact ones but not too much of any. All my friends with kids told me that it just depends on the baby and what they like.
  • Ive heard it depends on the baby however I was recommended tommee tippee so I've only bought those and I got a few different brands for free from friends and companies and I'm sure I'll get others at my baby shower. I'm going to try to stick with the tommee tippee since those are the ones I have the most of if not I have a few others to try out. The worse thing I could see happening is the baby doesnt like the tommee tippee and I'll just resale the unused ones.

I've heard the same thing. So I registered for Dr. Brown's, Avent, and Tommy Tipper. Again just a few of each until I see what Minion prefers.

ETA: pregnancy brain is screwing up my writing...

  • I used Avent with my first born so I'm planning on using that again! We will see!
