Trying to Get Pregnant

Shettles method

Is anyone using the shettles method for sex selection? This is our first month TTC and we would like a boy. We already have 2 girls and 1 boy. We would be happy with a boy or a girl but thought why not try for a boy. Anyway I'm confused as to when we should be trying. I have ewcv now but still no positive on my OPK. The book says try 12-24 hours after a +opk but I'm scared we will miss our window. Any one have any thoughts?

  • Wow I'm very sorry I disgust you. Like I've said we want a heathy baby and thought it would be fun just to try for a boy. Who cares if it a boy or girl. Just thought it would be fun. No need to be ugly.
  • I never said YOU disgust me. The topic does.

It also is a load of garbage, you have a 50/50 chance.

Apparently you care if it's a boy or a girl.

I agree with everyone else, this is awful. And it has a 50/50 shot of working.
  • I haven't seen much to show the efficacy of sex-selection methods, but why not try if it's something you'd enjoy.  Timing sex for the end of your fertile window does mean you risk missing it, but if you're willing to take that risk, why not?  It may mean you have to try for more cycles or try something else, but just because you try one theory of timing one cycle, doesn't mean you have to stick with it forever!

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with hoping for a nice split of sexes (or for whatever reason you would like a boy) - since you said you'll be happy in the end with either, since regardless your chances are probably about 50/50 no matter what.

You definitely work for the bump, huh?
Nope.  I wonder why a poster would think that.  I'm just a regular woman TTC who enjoy the free sharing of ideas and all perspectives.  I'd be happy to have a discussion with you via PM, but since it has nothing to do with OPs question, here is not hte appropriate place for such a discussion.

  • Again sorry for offending anyone. I was just asking a question. I didn't ask anyone else to try this method if they don't believe in it. Just was asking if anyone has used it. The reason we would like to try to possibly better our chances of a boy is because our son (who is 6) ask almost daily for a baby brother. That is the only reason we would even try this method. I'm trying not to read to much into everyone's post because I know it can be taken in a different way but my gosh! I think I may leave these boards. I thought this would be a place to support each other not attack someone.

My son asks almost daily for a cookie. Doesn't mean he gets it.

And you weren't attacked. The last question in your post "Anyone have any thoughts" means we can absolutely tell you if we believe in this method or not, and even if you didn't say that, it's the Internet. You can't dictate responses.

    Thanks, but no thanks.

    This disgusts me.

    OMG so unnecessary.

I think that any lovely lady in here would be happy just to to have a baby period in in their arms regardless of sex. I personally would also love a boy, my own little man. But I'm hoping for a Healthy baby either way. Best of luck.
  • I'd be too afraid to miss out on my fertile window. Good luck though! :-)
  • Wow, this board sure has lost it's spunk  :(

Everyone left a while back. The remnants aren't as feisty.

Actually the feisty ones are avoiding getting banned for said spunk. Trust, there are some around that would snark more if permitted. /:)
    This. Exactly.

Going back and reading more post I look back now and realize how my post could have struck a nerve. I am sorry for offending you ladies. That was not my intention. Just got caught up in the excitement and wanted to be involved with you ladies on the board. I will try to make sure before I post something I take into account how it could possible hurt someone. I know some of you have been here for a while and would love to have any baby and here I come "I'm new and want a boy".

    This is awesome.

Btw totally can see how you could have taken my initial post the wrong way, and I apologize for that as well.
