if our IUI this cycle doesn't work, which I'm thinking it isn't going to based on the bfn, we are going to move on to ivf. We are taking a cycle off first to get the orientation, trainings, and what-not done. I'm planning to ask the doctor but in the research I've done it looks like you can freeze eggs that were retrieved. Since we are all oop I'm wondering if that's an affordable option if the first ivf cycle doesn't work or even an option you were given at all. Just curious. I haven't yet set up our orientation date, so just compiling questions and background info so any input is welcomed!
Re: IVF Friends
I think egg freezing is a newer procedure and do not know of the success rate, I also do not think all clinics offer it.
If you are fortunate to have frozen embryos then you can have a later FET (frozen embryo transfer) there is still prep and a protocol but much less invasive and less time consuming.
How are things on the ER front for you?
So that's what's called a 'freeze all' where you do multiple retrievals and embryo creation and then freeze them for later.
My RE's success rate with a frozen embryo transfer with PGD testing was 78% last year. His fresh transfer rate with PGD testing was only 40%. His fresh 3-day transfer rate with no PGD testing is also around 80%.
While my FET (frozen embryo transfer) with PGD tested embryos didn't end well, I will be doing a fresh 3-day (no PGD testing) for my next cycle.
All of that to say at the end of the day, freezing our embryos wasn't that much of an additional cost. I think maybe around $500. And to thaw them it was around that same amount. So it wasn't too much of an extra cost for us at our clinic.
I agree $500 to get that significant of an improved chance- in the grand scheme of this isn't that bad.
