Pregnant after 35

Extreme back pain and stomach pain...UGH!!!!

Hello!  I'm 22 weeks pregnant as of today.  Last Sunday I noticed my lower back on my right side was sore and it seemed to go across my stomach.  I just thought maybe I moved wring and it would go away.  I ended up on the ER on Tuesday because the pain was so horrible,  They did an ultra sound and the baby is fine.  They also did an u/s on all my other organs and did blood work, Everything came back normal. I was sent home with a prescription for amoxicillan (in case there was an infection that didn't show up) ,told to take tylenol every 4 hous and come back on Thurs.  i went back and still couldn;t figure anything out. Anyone have any suggestions so I can get some relief from this pain?  This is our 2nd pregnancy. My first one ended in a m/c last summer, so I'm not sure if this is just something that will go away on it's own??? Thank you all for your help!!

  • Is it like muscle pain? Like you've strained something? I get horrible sciatica. Have you tried all the conservative care like ice or heat or stretches?

  • Sorry you are having so much pain.  I agree with @niknak1208 ... try the heat (though not too hot).  I am 22 weeks today as well and have noticed a lot more back pain, though nothing as painful as you are experiencing.  I really think it has to do with how I am sleeping.  How are you sleeping at night?  Could that be contributing to your pain?

  • Round ligament pain can be very intense.  A lot of the time mine hurts in a way it feels like it is wrapping from my back to front.  I also have had back issues.  When mine is acting up the pain is in my back on one side but there is a definite tightness sort of feeling with pain in my stomach.  Nothing really helps mine.  It tends to gradually get worse until one day I simply can't move and have to lay down for a few days or more until it goes away.
  • My Dr told me to go see a chiropractor. Hopefully that will help. She thinks that part of it is the round ligament pain. Thank you for your advice.
  • I was experiencing this same pain for the past 2 weeks and I'm 39 weeks today. Some days I feel pain in my right butt cheek too and my leg will almost give out when I try to walk (maybe b/c I'm so big now).  When I was laying in bed last night the pain kept radiating from the lower-mid back on right side around to the front, pulsating/dull ache with some sharp twinges -- I was worried it was a kidney infection, but dr. said urine is clean every time... I think it may just be the sciatica too, the way the baby lays on our nerves can cause problems!  I did a search online about it this morning and they recommended 'wet heat' so I guess that means warm baths? Also swapped out with ice packs. Massage really helps too, especially with a tennis ball, can push in deep. I was having a lot of pelvic pain too and physical therapy was helping with that as well. Good luck! Let us know if the chiropractor helps.

  • I went to my chiropractor appt. yesterday and can't believe how wonderful I feel.  I've never been to one before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.  She said that the pain I've been having is quite common in pregnant women.  I'm glad I finally got some relief. :)
  • great news lopatz.  Hope it all stays in place the rest of your pregnancy
  • So glad that your chiropractor helped!  I love my chiropractor - he is always able to get my hips "put back together" when they really start to bother me (I've had hip problems for years, and pregnancy has made it much worse!)  I hope that your adjustments hold for you!
