Charting help

So this is my first month really 'charting', and I've read TCOYF, but I'm still kinda confused. I've been off HBC (NuvaRing) since May '14, and have been using ovuview to track my period but DH and I were using a barrier so being super diligent about temping and noting CM wasn't an issue. Since going off BC my cycle has been a pretty consistant 29 days, with one cycle going 33 days ( and me peeing on all the sticks...) But this month I've been trying to temp/chart every day (there was a brief window when my cats thought the thermometer was a toy and it was lost under the dresser...) anyway I'm confused as to how to read my chart, b/c from my temps I may have Oed around CD16, but that doesn't seem to line up with my other symptoms. In the past few days I've noticed wet CM and my cervix has softened, but no temp shift... Do any of you ladies have any insite?

Re: Charting help

  • I charted for a very short period, so I am not an expert.  I did find my temp shifts aligned with my opks. Are you using those too? Your link doesn't seem to be working to view the chart. When in doubt, hump it out.  (We also have cats that enjoy using our things as their toys- the more expensive/important, the better the toy!)
  • Are you using OPKs?  Those often help pinpoint things a little better when used with temping.  I temped for many cycles, so if you can post a link to your chart, I'll take a look - though I'm not an expert by any means.  :)

That should be a link to mu chart. I'm in the process of switching to FF since that's what most of you ladies are using, and I ordered okps to use next cycle.

I did notice a little ewcm today, so hopefully my body is gearing up to O!
  • I think that it sounds a lot like you're gearing up to O!  Based on your temps, I would say you haven't yet.  IF this cycle doesn't work out, I think you'll find OPKs give another really helpful piece of information - when used with temping and noting CM, etc.

  • I agree. Either you are about O or it happened earlier than we can see in that chart.  Agree on PP with OPKs. I think when you start using FF you will find it easier to see the shift. Also, they have a great course that sends you one piece of info each day. That really helped me, plus looking at the chart gallery and playing the charting game.
    Good luck

  • Pregnancy mentioned.

When I got pregnant with my daughter it was very hard to tell by my temps what was going on with my cycle. FF originally thought I O'd but then I got a pos OPK and it completely changed. If I hadn't used the OPK I would have missed it. I seem to have frequent cycles where my body gears up to O but it doesn't work so then it tries again a few days later. If I try to go just by my temps I get really confused. Checking my cervix helps as well as paying attention to cm, but adding the OPK is the best way to remove any doubt. Good luck!!
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.
  • temping is tricky.  i find it more helpful in retrospect to give me a picture of what i was doing after the cycle is over and making sure everything was 'normal' but it hard to spot when you're in the middle of it that you are at the o.  i still think its critical though.  for deciding when to bd, i'm a big fan of the clearblue fertility monitor.  its pricey ($200) but i got mine used (not as gross as it sounds) for $80 from craigslist.  its a little tricky to program but the peace of mind it gives you that you will not miss your 'go time' was worth it for me. they only downside to it vs. opk's is that you can only test once a day, i think the opk's allow you to test throughout the day therefore getting an even more accurate pinpoint on your o.  good luck!
