I am 31 weeks 5 days and baby is weighing 4.4 pounds. My daughter was only 5 pounds 7 oz when she was born so I am wondering where others babies are and if I should be prepared for a big baby.
They haven't told me and I have no idea how they could accurately know the size. I wouldn't worry about a big baby just because they say baby is a certain weight. They can be off 2pounds in either direction
When has your doctor told you baby's weight? Was this determined by ultrasound or just a regular appointment? My doctor has yet to make any comments about LOs weight.
How do you guys know what your baby weighs??? I haven't had an ultrasound since 20 weeks and at that point she wasn't even a full pound. Im 31 weeks 5 days now.
I had a growth check US because of a problem with the placement of the cord into the placenta. They have to monitor to make sure she's still getting nutrients and growing. If she slows down, they'll have to take her early.
Ultrasound measurements are notoriously inaccurate, especially in late pregnancy. They're totally guessing. I wouldn't put any stock in it at all.
Even if they had a way to know for sure, you never know when baby has just had a growth spurt, so that would throw it off too.
A lot of doctors use those inaccurate measurements to convince women they need to be induced or get a c-section for a "big baby" and then baby ends up being 7 or 8 lbs. It's pretty ridiculous.
It sounds as if some of us are going to have big babies or the ultrasounds are off. With my daughter they were pretty accurate. Doc said an ultrasound now every month till the end. I wont complain. I have had about 7 already with this pregnancy.

Your pregnancy must be going pretty smooth. Most people only get two or three ultrasounds during pregnancy. You may get another one to check the size or it may just be a surprise. I am high risk with blood clotting disorders and have lost many babies so they watch me very close. I have had a lot of ultrasounds and yes this is how they estimate weight. If you do not get another ultrasound dont be worried...That's a good thing
I was 30 weeks at my last us last week and baby was 4.4 pounds . My tech said she was a little bigger but I am also diabetic. She is in the 72/75 range and they wish for them to be in 50 ...but also when I had my son I was told he was bigger at my last us ..but when he came out he was smaller. As long as baby is heath and your dr isn't concerned you shouldn't be. ..
I went in for a 3D ultrasound and asked the tech if they could tell how big the baby was. She did measurements of the baby and he was around 3lbs, I turned 29 weeks.

With my first we knew exactly the weekend she was conceived so we were only supposed to have the u/s at 20 weeks. She ended up failing a NST so we had a bunch in the end. I think the standard around here is maybe a dating u/s early and the 20 week.
Here in Australia the standard ultrasounds are dating scan in early pregnancy, 13 week neural defects scan, 20 week anatomy scan and 41 weeks to check on an overdue baby. I had a growth scan at 28 weeks because at my midwife appointment my fundal measurement was a week behind average. At the growth scan they check baby's head circumference, belly circumference and thigh bone measurement and work out what baby's weight should be. My girl is a healthy 1.1kgs (2 pound 6 oz) and is in the 42nd percentile. And they flipped the machine into 4D mode after taking the measurements and got the best pic of her face - I am so in love already
Went yesterday (31+5) for an ultrasound. Baby has a full head of hair, head down and facing my spine. They said he weighs about 4.1lbs, and he was a healthy size. Because he was in the birth position, the tech couldn't get his little face. 1 ultrasound left until D-Day!
kat0217. I don't think they are always accurate. They told my sister that her baby was going to be well over 10 lbs there was no way she was going to be able to deliver vaginally and convinced her to have a c-section. Well, he wasn't even 10 lbs.

@27 weeks we were measuring at 587g or 1lb 5oz our little guy has Iugr though. They estimate his weight by measuring his head belly and femur every 2 weeks
@29 weeks, 4 days, the doc did an ultrasound and said our little girl was 4 pounds, 2 ounces already, which makes her 98th percentile. But I have always heard that these in utero measurements can be very inaccurate. That said, both DH and I were big at birth (8 lbs, 9 ozs for me; 9 lbs, 14 ozs for him), so she has the genes on both sides to be a little Amazonian lady. :-)

She was born at 39 weeks weighing 6 lbs so I don't always trust their measurements until baby is out
