I think Brogan is sweet and special and not "off the wall" like some unique, made-up names can be. It really does sound lovely.
We were going to use the name Izaria for a girl once (we had a boy instead). It was a feminine twist on the masculine Azaria. We aren't going to be using it now at all. Thought I'd throw it out there because it's definitely unique but also very feminine and pretty. I love Izzy as a less formal name, a nickname.
sorry, i need to chime in.... i'm from Australia. you are calling your child Brogan..... ok. we have a slang term here.... Bogan. It basically means a lower class person / persons who lives off government hand outs, smokes drugs all day, has a mullet, wears flannelette shirts all year round, lives in government housing, hoons up and down the streets, does burn outs and donuts in stolen cars, usually either has a parent or all of their siblings in jail, and pretty much are low life's. So when i see the name Brogan, i think Bogan. Sure i love the idea of the meaning you have going for it, but i can't shake that awful nick name / stigma. If you don't believe me , google it. There's a few different meanings for it.. like " proud to be Australian" like i am, so therefore i'm a bogan. But basically it's the american equivalent of a redneck or trailer trash. I appologise now for my honesty.
It's cute, but it's actually a nickname for Harriett. Like Dottie for Dorothy. I'd give the name Harriett and call Hattie so babe has option to use less cutsie name as adult.

I went to HS in Aus and I thought the same thing haha. I know most people in the US won't think a thing, but all I could think of was a guy in a mullet driving a ute. Lol sorry I like the story behind the name a lot- my brain just went there.
We love the name Felicity for a girl. I've been in love with that name since my first American girl doll (yeah, not a very epic story lol) luckliy DH likes it too.
When I see the name Brogan all I think is people are going to call him bro... I think the idea & reasoning behind the name are special & I understand you want to honor his friends though. What about Landon? I understand it's not as unique. Just a thought. Hope you're not offended by my opinion. Just trying to give you honest feedback!
We've decided on Piper for a girl. Not too common, but a cute, simple name. I'm a teacher and come across so many names that just seem like a mash up of letters. Everyone wants their baby to have a different name, but just remember their name is forever..
@agiroir Love, love, love Quinn for a girl! It's darling!
@jennsuzanne87 Felicity is a good one too! It's so English! I fell in love with this name after the show.
As for us, since we're raising the baby in France, we'll probably stick to something that makes sense here. For a boy, I've always wanted Peter but that's the verb to fart in French, so yeah, that's out...
I saw the post about the Australian slang term Maybe Landon would be a better boy option, still two combined but also an uncommon boys name that won't possibly haunt him? Just a thought not intentionally stepping on anyone's toes! I love the idea of combining the two names, that type of love and respect is beautiful.
Just some food for thought The name I chose for my daughter is one that I had only heard used one time in probably 13 years (I had picked it out a lllooonnggg time ago). I loved that it was so unique and beautiful but with that in mind now that we've used it I hear it often. It's crazy! I really like the idea of Landon, the sentiment behind Brogan is beautiful but to be perfectly honest I hear "bro" and think of how it could be used by kids rudely as your child grows up.
I guess I don't understand the need for everyone to find a unique name. What's wrong with a common or classic name? The person is what makes a name memorable, the individual is what becomes unique. I laugh a little when I see yet another person trying to find a unique name, all it does is push people into further and further extremes with spelling in order to have their kid stand out. To the point where they stand out for the wrong reasons, because their name labels them in a negative way.
If your able to find an uncommon name that is real, and spelled correctly then by all means go for it. I'm just stuck on the need to butcher a real name for the sole purpose of being "unique."
I've always loved the name Isolde (from the Opera Tristan and Isolde) but I don't have the guts to use it. I'm too scared people will just butcher the pronounciation of it until the day she dies...
My nephews name is Brogan and we here in the states do not think of his name as having the meaning of a red neck or trailer trash. If you look up the name it is a Irish sir name and was the name to many Irish Saints. Just wanted to point that out...so I personally love the name Brogan.
We have a Breaw (Bria) which I wasn't sure in the spelling at first. But it's her great great grandmas maiden name and spelled the same. And we found out they were born on the same exact day!! So It has special meaning. It's French. We also have a Lilly. I don't have any girls names picked out either.
It is 100% possible to find an uncommon name that isn't a horrific abberation. As someone with a very Irish first name that nobody can read properly, I try to give my children names that are at least easy enough to read. That being said they don't have particularly average names. DD's nickname of Lily is, however, super common.

I LOVE unique names, and I have a few. They're not crazy out there, but I think they are unique and uncommon. I'm having a hard time with boys names, but I think I have my husband on board with Ezra. Thank you pinterest haha!

I love Brogan by the way! I always really liked Oceana, I found the name with my first pregnancy but I ended up having a boy. We named him Leonardo Mikkel, which I love, but Oceana isn't a really good sibling name for Leo. It's too bad, now I have to look for something new as well. Good luck!
We like classic names: Margo, Maude and Maeve. They are late 1800s early 1900s. Not a lot of people with those names today.
Our daughters middle name is Maude, after my great great grandmother.
Octavia. Iris. Oria. Leaira. Oona (oonuh). Erowin. Willow. Quinton. Rosabeth. Just some ideas.
Also, I'm with other posters in that Landon is a more pleasant sounding name than Brogan. I see him being called bro a lot, which could be used in an offensive way. Or perhaps not, but it could still annoy your child anyway and cause stress. I have only met one person my whole life named Landon, so I don't think it's a very common name. It also wouldn't sound bad as a girl's name.
I find if you are looking for unique names that it is best to look wayyy back at old fashioned names. There are some very beautiful names that are very uncommon now.
