Pediatric Dentist Appt

Hi all, just curious about dentist appts for little ones. I know everything I've read online says to take them by the time they're one or have a few teeth just to get them used to it and get things checked out. My little guy has almost all of his teeth except a few molars (he got them early) and I was looking to make an appt but then realized I was dumb and forgot to add him to our dental insurance during open enrollment! So now he won't be on our dental insurance until January. I'm going to ask his pediatrician because he has a well visit this week but I'm wondering if it's okay to wait until then or if we should just pay out of pocket for the appt. Any thoughts?

  • You will get a really wide range of answers on this one. I have friends who went right when they started getting teeth. Personally, my dentist went over how to brush baby teeth and tips and tricks to floss. His opinion was that taking them to the dentist that young was more to get them comfortable and parent education.

We took DS1 right when he turned 3. He did great and really enjoyed the appt. We mostly waited that long out of laziness, with DS2 coming and then getting here things were pretty hectic. I will probably bring DS2 (my august 2013 baby) around 2. So I wouldn't pay out of pocket for a visit if I were you. I would say he would be fine to wait a bit.
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.
