Will Flu Vaccine be available?

My first two were born in March and November so I was able to get the flu vaccine while I was pregnant. How does it work with a September due date? This baby will probably be born before the vaccine comes out. I plan on asking my OB next week and my pedi at the end of the month at my son's well visit, but was wondering if anyone else knew. My oldest will start Kinder this fall and I just want to make sure all of my kids are protected.

  • Good question ... I was wondering about this too! I'm assuming if we can get the flu shot before the baby is born, it would provide the baby with some immunity prior to being born, right? I can't remember when the flu shots typically come out each year ... I'm due Sept. 10, so it may be too early.

  • I think most flu shot come out in October. We go to Disney World every October and I remember my mom and husband getting theirs before we left.
  • Yes, the baby will be protected if we recieve the vaccine while pregnant. I think I'm going to have to actually breastfeed this one so I can pass on protection that way. I bottle fed my first two because I'm a wimp and couldn't handle the pain.
  • My first was due 9/4, had her on 9/7 and was able to get the flu shot before she was born.  The Walgreens near us usually has them in Aug and they have preservative free if you request it.
  • Awesome, thanks @sschwege! I'll have to check out the Walgreen's near me in August.
  • Great news! Thank you @sschwege!
  • The office I work for had them in October. Even though it's late in the flu season you can still ask to get one now. They are supposed to last a full year now.
