Decreased appetite

My LO is a very happy smiling laughing cooing baby that is 100% breastmilk fed. At 16 weeks she is still gaining but slowly. She does not seem to have much of an appetite. She has never been a big demander of food so we schedule her feedings to ensure we get enough in her. We are striving to feed her 3oz right now every 2.5 hours by day. Sometimes she only wants 1.5 or 2oz per feeding. This has become our biggest challenge. We have tried sleep feeding, side lying feeding, boppy feeding, sitting up feeding ... It's like the stars have to align for her to eat well. Does anyone out there have any similar issues?

Re: Decreased appetite

  • My LO is FF, but has a similar appetite. She's a very happy baby and makes it known when she's hungry. But then 2-3 oz is enough to make her full and push the bottle out. She will be 4 months old on Wednesday. I track how much she has with every bottle. What has given me peace of mind is that I can see that 1) gradually the total she drinks per day has gone up even though it's not apparent throughout the day, and 2) no matter how little or lot she drinks per bottle, the amount she ends up consuming over a 24-hour period is pretty consistent. Observing those patterns makes me more comfortable. Tells me she'll drink as much as she needs to...no more no less.

I still do obsess over how much/little she drinks. These days she's averaging about 24-26 oz per day.
