I was recently started on metformin on 01/22/15, I was diagnosed with PCOS and I am trying to concieve. I am being put on it for 3 months and if no success they are going to let me try clomid. I was wondering if any one has any success stories with Metformin they would like to share? I would love to hear some
8 cycles for my first and 9 for my seconds. My cycles are 30 to 60 days long though. I suggest charting. It really helped me. I would hold off on clomid. You can only take it 3 times in your life. You may do great on metformin. You may just have a timing issue not a fertility issue.
OPK may work for some. With PCOS you may have long surges, or several surges. However charting will guarantee that you did in fact ovulate. It does seem overwhelming at first but I promise it really is not. fertility friend is online and free. It gives a great tutorial how to chart and to see other fertility signs. All you need is to take your temperature once a day, every day at the time when you first get up And record that. every thing else is 'extra'.
Because 99% of OBs do not have the proper training and ability to monitor Clomid correctly. It has serious side effects and can be very harmful.
This. All of this. Basically, OBs are for you once you get pregnant, an RE will help you get pregnant if you have difficulty. It is not an OBs specialty to help you get pregnant.
My SIL got pregnant twice on metformin with PCOS... Not that she had any business doing so. Not my business, though.
Those little accidental "success" stories are only anecdotal evidence and cannot suggest anyone else's success. Good luck though, I hear metformin is particularly rough on the digestive tract.
I have PCOS and had success with Metformin with my first child. We TTC for 15 months before she was born and was on Metformin for about 4 months before conceiving her. As mentioned, do NOT do Clomid without seeking medical attention from an RE.

@Jellyfish42 these not just accidental stories with metformin. Metformin is a first line pregnancy drug used with PCOS to promote ovulation. The success rate for ovulation with previous anovulation cycles is very high with metformin alone. It also is great with insulin resistance, which also leads to ovulation issues. that is why so many of us PCOSer are on it.
I am on it regardless of my fertility desires. It is interesting when they were doing the FDA studies for this drug initially. Pregnancy was a common and unexpected 'side effect'.
@PugsandKisses Really thats amazing Congratz on your success! How long did it take you? Im not sure, I havent tested myself, but I believe the last time I was at the doctors my blood test said I was ovulating. I do get ovulation symptoms, I dont get regualr periods at all tho, and I havent gotten one this entire month. I did have one in January but that was from Provera. So im pretty confused lol.I am skeptical of taking a test yet.
@PugsandKisses Ya I have thought about charting, it seems so complicated lol I should really look into it tho it seems to help alot. My friend tried the ovulation kits and it helped her too, have your tried any of those? Ya I was debating the clomid because I am 21, I didnt think I needed that yet, but my doctor said thats what we would try next if the metformin didnt work within 3 months.
@PugsandKisses@jnnfrrose6 Wow, I did not know that. Why do they not tell you this there Thank you ladies for that info. They only wanted me on metformin for 3 months, So far it hasnt done anything for me Ive actually gained 10lbs on it, fustrating
