As long as your doc indicates that you and baby are healthy, I would not worry about what the scale says. I have gained 14 lbs and am 26 weeks. But I would not use me as a gauge.... I've taken a LOT of liberties with ice cream and girl scout cookies as of late!
Unless your Dr has expressed concern, don't worry about it.
Also, the weight one should gain depends on what weight they started at and what height they are, so really, we cannot tell you how much you should/should not have gained.
FWIW I've gained 10 pounds at 24 weeks and my Midwife says that's fine. I am 5'4" and started about 15 pounds over what I *should* weigh.
See completely honest I started out heavy. And had issues with keeping my weight down I figured it's be same, but it's not I hope I'll lose weight easily after having lil Allana
Every woman is different. I started out underweight, and apparently my body has no problems packing on the pounds. I have gained 20 but for the 1st time in 10 years I weigh what I should for my height. I will be 6 months on Monday. But women gain weight at different times during their pregnancy. Between weeks 18 and 21 I gained 2 lbs a week and weeks since then I have gained one or none.
I started out at 126 (@ 5'5”) and at 25w4d I've gained 19 lbs. 8lbs since my last appt exactly a month ago. I was freaked out but my Dr says I'm in the healthy range. Everyone is different.
if it helps you feel any better, I lost 32 lbs the first three and a half months of pregnancy due to such intense morning sickness and have only put on 6 pounds since then. I'm 25 weeks, both baby and I are healthy with no concerns from my ob or the nutritionist I see. everyone's body is different! but like everyone else has said, talk to your doctor if you have concerns.
I was underweight.. Had a bunch of catching up to do. Apparently I'm doing a great job ... Till my Dr stepped in... Lol My Dr told me I could afford to gain more. I don't know how though I eat a full meal every 3 hours
I too was underweight and I have gained just over 20lbs and I am 24 weeks tomorrow. As another poster wrote, I am finally in the normal BMI range for my height/weight. So I am trying not to worry about the fact that I have already gained 20lbs. I worry about it a little, but not enough to keep me away from brownies and ice cream ;-)
I appreciate this thread and the people who have shared!
I'm pretty tiny but have gained a lot weight, and am getting lots of 'omg you're huge comments', so started to worry that I might have gained to much. I've jumped from 104-123 in 24.5 wks. Glad I'm not alone!
My friend has same due date as me and is a lot bigger than me and weighs more than me now yet before we were pregant she weighed less! So I think weight gain is just different as long as your healthy it doesn't matter you could be carring more water a bigger baby big boobs and other might not be
My doctor told me that my weight is not as important as the baby's weight, other than the (valid) psychological effects it has on me. So he said to worry less about my weight (I feel too small) and focus on the kid (who's thankfully at a normal weight).
Not sure I liked this advice, but just offering my own experience. As husband jokingly said, "Yeah, you're just the vessel!"
I'm 5'8" and was a very normal weight before pregnancy. Am 26 weeks and have gained 10 lbs.
I'm a firm believer in finding a doctor you trust and then taking their advice to heart.
