I was induced Sunday evening with Cervital and labored all night and Monday day. By Monday evening I was barely 2cm dilated. My doctor gave me the option to go home and see what happens or start pitocin. After all those contractions and time in the hospital I figured one more night wouldn't hurt. I have had a LEEP done so I have scar tissue around my cervix. Doctor was not sure the pitocin would work but she said if it didn't overnight then she will just have me wait it out. Started pitocin Monday evening. Water broke about three hours later. Two hours later I was in miserable pain and just barely 4cm dilated. In wee hours of Tuesday, I gave in and begged for the epidural. I was in so much pain that I barely noticed the doctor had to stick me twice. Medicine worked miracles for my pain and got me through another day of labor. Without the epidural I know I wouldn't have been able to rest and make it to when my son finally decided to arrive about 3:30pm Tuesday! On the flip side, because I had to be stuck multiple times my back was in tons of pain postnatal. I also ended up with a bad spinal headache which now over a week later, I am still dealing with. I can get a "blood patch" done to fix the spinal headache but that involves getting stuck again in my back so hoping it will resolve itself. So guess my point is, epidurals have their risks so be aware but even with my complication I wouldn't change anything. I needed it to get through my very long labor.
