What type of toothpaste do you give your toddler. My 3.5 DS has had the Thomas train training kind and it is not fluorinated. Thinking I should try something with fluoride. What are some "taste friendly" ones that your LO's like?

What does his dentist say? We use Tom's of Maine kids toothpaste.

I have to talk to him. We go back soon. I was curious how the taste of that was bc I know I don't care for the adult version. Glad to know your child likes it, maybe I will give it a try.

My son's dentist told us not to use toothpaste with flouride until my son could reliably spit, which the dentist said is usually between 3 and 4 years old. But, we have city water which has flouride, so he gets what he needs that way.

No flouride until they spit it out. Until then use the training toothpaste. It depends on the kid but our son was around 3.

The dentist said the fluoride is fine, just use a very small amount (DS can't spit it out yet)

By 3.5 you should definitely use fluoridated toothpaste.  It is recommended that children use a thin shmear of fluoridated toothpaste from when they get their first tooth, until about age 3 (when they transition to a pea-size amount).  here are the official guidelines, and also a good photo of how much toothpaste to use:
