Diapers?

A friend of mine suggested randomly buying a pack of diapers when at Walmart every once in a while. Any suggestions as to what brands and why?!

  • Thanks in advance:)

  • You should buy a variety of brands in small packs at first, then you can figure out what works best for you and your baby.the others that are unopened, you can exchange for the ones you do want.
  • Don't just buy brand names either. My sister found target brand diapers were the only diapers that didn't give my nephew severe diaper rashes.
  • Thanks for all the advice!!
  • I preferred Huggies newborn and then pamper swaddlers for all other sizes.
Someone on another board suggested you just buy gift cards for the price of the diapers instead because you never know what's going to work for baby (butt size, if their allergic, etc) then when baby comes you aren't stuck with all these diapers that don't work for baby and don't have to return them all. Though it sounded like a good idea

  • Yes like others have said, if you are going to start stocking up on diapers get a variety of different brands. My little guy started off with Pampers and did great for awhile but then started leaking through them around 6 months old. Someone suggested to me to try Target brand and we've never looked back, they have worked so well for us and are so much cheaper! But like others have said different brands fit different babies better.
  • Yeah Target's Up and Up brand is great. I'm usually a Huggies girl but I got my 20M old a pack of Pampers this month and they smell very strongly of chemicals. I'm sure they all do but my heightened sense of smell may be making these Pampers stink worse.

  • I like the pampers swaddlers for newborn. Then target up and up after. And they are way cheaper.

  • I've tried them all but my personal preference is Pampers swaddlers. They are super soft. For wipes I like Huggies natural because they're more moist than the pampers wipes.
  • I use Wal-Mart brand (parent's choice) for my 18 month old daughter and they work just as well as any name brand diaper for us. Plus they're cheaper! I used to use Luvs and Huggies for my son and it seemed like he always leaked through. Could just be the difference between a boy and a girl but I have no complaints about wal-mart brand diapers!
  • My advice would e to put the money on a gift card to be used for when baby gets here. Some babies can't use disposable and have to be cloth diapered. Some can use any brand of diapers and not have a problem and some can only wear one specific brand. We cloth diaper and love it and will cloth diapering this baby from birth as well.
  • For small baby I like pampers swaddlers, this will be my 3rd baby and it was the same for both.  I thought huggies leaked early on and didn't fit my boys good.  At about 6 months, moving around and eating solids, I changed over to huggies.  As for wipes I'll ONLY use pampers sensitive. My oldest had eczema on his bottom and I discovered huggies made him worse and pampers sensitive worked best.  The only brand I've ever tried and hated was walmart diapers.  Target brand is good.  I don't like LUVs much at all.

  • I used to use pampers and Huggies for my 2 other children but that was a long time ago, this baby I'm going to try the honest company diapers and wipes. They have great bundle deals and free shipping! They are made of natural materials.
  • I like pampers best. My advice for buying diapers though is that I really didn't but as many as I thought before I had a baby. I bought two big boxes maybe every other month or so. Target has a brand sale every month where if you buy 2 big boxes you get a $15 or $20 gift card. I didn't buy any diapers before and then ended up with extra boxes of newborn and size 1 and 2. I like the gift card idea mentioned above a lot though! That's a great idea.

  • Each momma is different. Personally I hated Huggins because the tabs would always fold in while trying to change baby. I loved pampers swaddlers when my ds was and infant and then target brand after that. Luvs are decent too but for the price and quality of target I always go with them!
  • I noticed pampers have a weird smell too. Thought it was just me..
  • I have always heard huggies and that is my plan for now but every baby needs something. Go with the sales and coupons!
  • If your having a baby shower a lot of ppl are doing diaper raffles, bring a pack of diapers and your name goes into a drawing for a prize (candle or something) to encourage diapers as gifts! Since you can never have enough and can usually exchange for different sizes
  • Sometimes consignment shops sell new or partial packs that parents end up not using, often in the littlest sizes. It may be a good way to try several kinds of diapers without spending too much.

  • Pampers snugglers for when the baby is tiny :)
  • My friends all recommend Target brand diapers, so I'm buying a pack here and there.
  • We hoarded Amazon gift cards. I have diapers delivered once a month from Amazon's Subscribe and Save with the Amazon mom discount. It's 20% off of Pampers every month! And bonus, I don't have to lug a box (or more) of diapers around. I highly suggest NOT stockpiling diapers as others have said as you have no idea what will work for your baby!

  • With my sisters they all wore huggies but that was 6-10 years ago I'm sure things have changed. I went to a baby shower the other day and learned that a lot of the moms loved the target brand diapers and Costco wipes. There was something they were talking about that you can only get from Walmart, I'm pretty sure it was the nipple cream they liked.
