We have recently started the potty training process and DD has severe dry skin on her hips/love handle area. Im sure its from the undies and that skin not being exposed to anything but diapers for 2 years. its so sensitive that no matter what kind of lotion I try and put on her she cries and cries. Does anyone else suggest something else to put on? I don't want to hurt her but also don't want to go a day without hydrating her skin as its dry anyways.
You can put some coconut oil on the skin between potty trips. After baths (use an ultra moisturizing body wash or bar like dove) pat (don't rub) & put some lotion on.
You can also ask your pediatrician for a healing lotion? Aquafor and Gold Bond make some that are amazing.
You can also look into softer undies. We found elastic free & soft cotton are easier on DD's sensitive skin. Yes, they might be more expensive, but it's well worth the relief: https://www.justfussy.com/item.php?item_id=31
I use coconut oil or my argan oil on DDs dry skin. I find it works better than most lotions and because it's all natural I'm not worried about her being sensitive to any fragrance or ingredient. I call it the special lotion and get it out of my room so she feels like it's a treat. This way she'll actually sit still for me to rub it in enough.
