Hey ladies, what should I be expecting on my 40 week appt ? I have not yet felt any Braxton hicks contractions nor contractions at all. Has this happened to anyone at all?

Re: Ladies!

  • I was in that boat with my first child. It was just like every other appointment except they wanted me to come back in a few days instead of a week. I went back at 40 1/2 then 41 and they induced at 41.

We're sort of like that now - I've had intense prodromal labor for almost two weeks and then it's like my uterus just got bored of contracting (great, thanks!). We're 40 weeks tomorrow and I'm hoping something gives soon or I'm going to lose my mind!

Edit: I'm going to ask for a check under the good for progression and to see if they can do a sweep at my appt. DH is leaving town in a week and I don't want him to miss the birth!
  • My office is doing a vaginal check, an ultrasound, and a nonstress test - but that's regular for them when the patient reaches term. So long as everything looks good we'll do it again at 41 weeks otherwise we start talking induction.

  • At my OB's office I believe it's a normal appt: fundal height, urine sample, weight, doppler, cervical check. They scheduled my 41 week induction date at my 39 week appt so I plan on asking what induction methods they use.

  • Same here. I have my 40 week appt on Thurs. I have experienced no BH, no contractions, no mucus plug loss. As far as I know she will check everything as normal including cervical check. So far I have not dialated at all so she hasn't been able to do a sweep. I know we will schedule an induction for 41 weeks, as my OB doesn't let you go past that. I'm not sure what to expect with that so as PP said, I have a lot of questions ready for her on induction methods and c-sections. Good luck!
