Do NOT take Dulcolax!

I was backed up for 4 days and decided that I was done with being in pain and not being able to eat. I really should have tried a stool softener first because I thought I was going to die last night. The label on the box says it may cause "cramping, faintness and stomach discomfort". What it actually does (3 hours later) is cause intense vomiting, cold sweats, chills, the most painful stomach cramping I have ever experienced, and diarrhea for the next 24 hours. Granted, I feel much better now, but at what cost? Good god I thought I was going to have to call an ambulance. I don't know what the fuck they think they're doing, but whoever put "gentle and predictable overnight relief " on the box needs to be fed an entire box of the shit. End rant.

  • Haha I was just trying to offer a warning to those who are suffering from constipation! Seriously, all I needed was a Sherman Tank and I got a nuclear bomb. That is some industrial strength shit.

  • Hysterical! And since we're talking constipation, what's a safe way to assist? Without the nuclear bomb. Fiber One?

  • I could've told you not to take Dulcolax. Actually, stimulant laxatives on general should be avoided during pregnancy, but Dulcolax is the worst!

As someone who's dealt with plenty of constipation, pregnant or not, I can vouch for Fiber One, also eat prunes, and grapes sometimes help me.

Also, make sure you're drinking plenty of water.

Colace, Metamucil, or miralax are all very mild I have taken all three with no issues. They can make you gassy but who cares if it helps you poop.

**edit not all three at one time just use one at a time!!!
  • Omg stimulant laxatives... Took one before bed once and woke up at 4am and spent the next 90mins with the worst diarrhea of my life

Metamucil is a godsend. I take it every other day. It's also great in smoothies :) sugar free though! The regular kind has an ungodly amt of sugar and aspartame or not, that much sugar isn't good for anyone
  • Omg this exact thing happened to my friend ... I second the Metamucil before bed
