Help ladies! I hope everyone had a good week.

When were you diagnosed? 5 weeks ago

What worked for you this week?
Shredded chicken tacos. They are so good and my numbers are great with them. I might have them every day from now on.

What didn't work for you?
Retried beans :-(. I can do pinto beans or black beans but not refried beans, even a tiny bit. I'm assuming it's the fat content that makes them a no-go.

GTKY: what's one thing you are eating regularly now that you will ditch once you have your LO (at least for a while)?
Probably eggs..... I'm pretty tired of them at this point!

Edited because auto-correct sucks sometimes.

  • When was I diagnosed: 2 weeks ago

What worked for me this week? Chicken quesadilla with a garden salad. Delicious and satisfying

What didn't work: numbers were fine all week but I'm having a hard time wanting to eat as often as I'm supposed to. Not always hungry for snacks so I find I'm having to force them down.

Food I will ditch after: prob won't want peanut butter for a while. And I've been eating a low fat Turkey bacon which is not at all the same so I'm exited to eat regular bacon again.

  • You make me want chicken taco's but i already have steak on!

I really can't remember how many weeks it's been since i've been diagnosed, all i know is my fingers hurt!

What worked for you this week?
Seems like a lottery, started the pills last week and i'm not really sure if it's making a difference yet.

    What didn't work for you?
penut butter and banana on wholemeal toast. :( Usually fine.

GTKY: what's one thing you are eating regularly now that you will ditch once you have your LO (at least for a while)?
I can't say i can think of anything specifically, i do know i'm going to be having a buffet in the hospital though of things i haven't been able to eat because of general pregnancy risks.
  • When were you diagnosed? About 6 weeks ago

What worked for you this week? Being diligent with snacks.

What didn't work for you?  I had a snack too close to dinner and I'm pretty sure that's why my after dinner number was high. It was 135 so not terrible but it ruined my week of perfect numbers.

GTKY: what's one thing you are eating regularly now that you will ditch once you have your LO (at least for a while)? I'm not sure. Maybe cut back on the peanut butter?? I seem to eat that with everything...toast, English Muffins, rice cakes.

What worked for you this week? I made an alfredo penne chicken bake with a bread crumb topping the other day and was kind of expecting my number to be high but it was fine! I am looking forward to leftovers for lunch today.

What didn't work for you? I had a great week. Luckily, no issues or high numbers! I asked my dietitian if I can cut back on testing to a couple times a day since my insurance doesn't cover the supplies. Still waiting for her reply. It's probably a long shot but I figured it is worth a try. Dang those strips are expensive!

GTKY: what's one thing you are eating regularly now that you will ditch once you have your LO (at least for a while)? Definitely taking a break from eggs and peanut butter, they are my "go-to" foods for adding some protein to a meal/snack.
  • Hi ladies!! I'm completely new to this board. I just got diagnosed yesterday! Last night after dinner was my first testing I had a 75 so I thought do I even have GD? Then I woke up this am for the fasting and it's at 100... Honestly I don't even know what that means but it's above where they want it at <95.
  • crystald88 I thought the same thing when I was diagnosed. But if you failed the one hour and the three hour test you probably have GD. As far as numbers go, as long I'm <120 for breakfast, lunch and dinner the doctor is happy. My fasting numbers are to be between 65-90. I only have to test my fasting number and breakfast number once a week though bc they're consistently good. I found that walking after meals really helps. I do our stairs after dinner because it's too cold to walk outside still. And drink lots of water. Good luck!

Also, GD is a progressive disease so your numbers very likely will increase as the baby and placenta keep growing. Your fasting level is a pretty important benchmark of how well your body is working. It's not uncommon for Drs to have different cut-offs but they all the ones I've seen fall under 100.

Have you met with a nutritionist or a specialist yet?
  • I've seen a nutritionist and today in 3 hours I'm going to see the specialist. My fasting # this morning was 94 which I was a lot happier with. Hopefully I can figure out how to keep this under control with diet alone!
