Pretending in Play

DD  saw me make a pretend hamburger with her plastic play food the other night and last night she put the pieces together and pretended to eat it.  I was amazed...how old was your DC when they started to pretend to do things like this, put baby dolls to sleep, etc?

Re: Pretending in Play

  • DD got a kitchen set and a baby doll for Christmas (she turned one two days later) and will "pretend" with both things.  She puts the cups in the kitchen set up to her mouth like she's drinking and then goes, "Ahhhhh!" (you know, like when you drink something refreshing?), puts the pots and pans on the kitchen set stove, and carries her baby over her shoulder while patting its butt (what we do to her to her when she's overtired).  Sooooo cute!

  • Well Paige LOVES to put things in her mouth and we got her a kitchen for Christmas and it actually surprised me that she pretend eats the food!  She will put it up to her mouth and then she will open and close her mouth like she is eating.  Then the other night she rubbed her belly and said yummy!  I don't even know where she learned that.  For a long time now - I would say 10-11 months she has pretended with her baby - rocked it, patted its butt, kissed and hugged it.  It is really remarkable how they learn so fast!  Paige is even at the stage right now where she likes dress up already!  She found my scarf the other day and put it around her shoulders and then walked around like she was the queen or something....lol.  Our kids are too cute!

  • DD also got a kitchen set and baby doll for X-mas.  Though she's still pretty young (just turned 1 year in mid-December) she is already pretending to stir the pot with the spoon, drink form the cup and will rock the baby (which is adorable!)
  • DD's kitchen has a play fridge with a water dispenser on the outside of the door.  She likes to put her teacup in there and act like she's getting some filtered water!  She'll also tilt the teapot into my cup like she's filling it up for me and then she'll pretend to drink it.
