Thoughts on Avigail?

My husband has become quite insistent on the name Abigail for daughter number two. However, I'm not a huge fan and really don't care for the nickname "Abby". But he loves the meaning ("A Father's Joy") and isn't backing down. I'm trying to find a compromising solution and was considering the name Avigail. It's the Hebrew version of the name and a different nickname like Ava or Avi could be used. But is it just too weird? Help me out!

I'm not familiar with Avigail, so it looks like a typo to me.

Are you or DH Jewish and/or involved in the Jewish community that would recognize it as a Hebrew name? Otherwise I would worry that most people would see it as a typo (that was my first impression, at least).

I think since it's so unfamiliar and so close to Abigail there would be a lot of confusion to deal with.

If you're not Jewish I would not go with a Hebrew variation. And most people in the states will look at it as a typo.

You don't have call your child by a nick name. You could also use Gail as a nick name instead.

It looks like a typo, and may sound like you're saying Abigail or that her name is being mispronounced.

No to Avigail. Go with Abigail. She doesn't have to be Abby.

I'm of the thought that if one person does not like the name, it needs to be scratched off the list and new names need to be brought up.  So, even if he loves the name, if you don't like it, back to the drawing board.  Same would go if it was you who loved it, and he didn't like it.

Yeah I feel like that as well.  I would really hope that if I truly disliked a name DH would be cool with going back to the drawing board.  I mean it might be a little more tough if it were a family name or something, but his reasoning seems perhaps a tad self-indulgent?
