My husband and I are throwing away the BC and starting to try to conceive. So we're going on a cruise the week of March 15, and I'm trying to do my best to time ovulation for that week. I'm coming off the pill and I can't figure out when I need to stop taking the pill to best aim for ovulating that week. Any advice?
I realize that everyone's cycle is different, just looking for a bit of help w/ a guideline. I'm kind of Type A
There is nothing you can do to try and time ovulation for a specific time period. It happens when it happens and messing with your pills isn't going to change that, it's just going to screw around with your hormones. Finish your pills when a pack is out and start temping so you can confirm when O actually does occur.
Yeah, your ovulation isn't like your period...you can't really "make it happen" when you want to. I would suggest buying a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility and learn more about how your body works. Start charting, relax and don't stress too much over it.
I would def wait to stop taking the pill until after you get back from vacation. Finish up the remaining pack and start fresh next month. not what you wanted to hear necessarily, but it will probably no go in your favor if you stop taking the pill mid cycle.
Like another PP said, make sure you finish your pack before stopping. It is best to finish the whole pack instead of stopping mid pack. That being said, it is hard to pinpoint when you are going to ovulate unless you have been tracking it with charting, temping, etc.
I stopped the pill and ovulated later than usual and got pregnant because I didn't know when I was ovulating, I had no idea coming off the pill. Like all the ladies said, it will happen when it happens.
I just got off BC myself and everyones' bodies are so different- your body can immediately start a 28 day cycle, or there can be a withdrawal period from BC. Everyone is different and everyone's cycle is unique. In order to know your cycle better, I suggest you start temping so you can start to learn about your cycle so that by March you'll be well aware of when to possibly expect ovulation! Fertility Friend is a great app for that and can teach you all about it. A lot of the ladies here also recommend reading TCOYF (Taking Charge of Your Fertility). A new edition of the book comes out next Tuesday and I have it pre-ordered!
