I plan on giving birth at Skyridge but I've heard their c-section rates are high and it's got me thinking twice now..has anyone given birth there or know any more great hospitals for natural birth?
We delivered at Skyridge just 6 weeks ago. I had heard nothing but negative opinions so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to admit that it was really a wonderful experience... save 1 surly nurse, everyone was awesome. I had a pretty solid birth plan & I was completely surprised when everyone read it & talked it over with me & DH.... even the anesthesiologist looked it over! I had issues getting DS out & it took quite a while. Doc (whom I had never even met) really respected our wishes to have a natural birth. Eventually LO made it out & not once did they bring up a c-section.
I would warn more to make sure to have your guard up with the postpartum nurses (see above "surly nurse"). One actually gave me an ultimatum that if my LO didn't latch within the hour then they would have to take him to the NICU and insert a feeding tube. This was only 7 hours after giving birth. It was extremely difficult holding our ground with her.
I gave birth to my first there and had an awesome experience. They really made me feel like I was the only person in labor at the whole hospital. I did end up having a c-section, but I was prepared for that since my first was such a big baby. I am planning on having this one at Sky Ridge too. Hopefully the new maternity ward will be built!:)
Maybe you've delivered now. If not... I had my 2ndb there 7 years ago and do not remember having any issues. I would think a C-section rate is more geared to the dr's preference instead of the hospital. It never came up with me but this was my second vaginal and my L&D went pretty quickly. Hope it goes/went well for you. I'm delivering at Castle Rock this time only because my OB has recently become exclusive with them.
