so DS is 20 weeks old and he can roll over back to tummy. BUT now when he sleeps he rolls over and sleeps with his face in the mattress. I had talked to his pedi about him roling on his side and him pushing his face into the mattress and the pedi said " if he can turn his face into the mattress, he should be able to turn it away." But would that be the same thing for him now, rolling on his tummy? He struggles now with rolling back over onto his back and in the crib he doesn't have enough room to do it. Do anyone else's LO do this? Do I need to worry about this?
I have always heard what your doc said that once they get to the point where they can roll over they will move their head around if they couldn't breath. Though not a medical professional either. All I know is that when LO falls asleep on me or DH for a nap he always stuffs his head into our clothes. We actually joke that he's trying to smother himself.
My DS has slept face down since birth, he spit up alot and used to choke on it and when he was face down it just trickled out of his mouth. Just make sure the matress is firm and that there are ni blankets under him or near his face.
MY DD started rolling into her stomach and sleeping face down at 13 1/2 weeks. Doctor explained she is strong enough to turn her head, just had to learn. How does your do during tummy time, good neck control? Pedoatrician explained that babies start to master skills in their sleep sometimes (rolling) so to allow them to work though gross motor skills in crib, nor to flip back once they've rolled. It took about two weeks, and me sleeping in her room, to ensure I felt safe. But she did eventually learn to turn her head and she has slept so much better! Pedoatrician suggested more practice of tummy time to help them learn quicker!
