Nuchal Translucency scan 2.2mm

Greetings,

Yesterday I had my 12 week nuchal translucency scan, and it showed normal results for the nasal bone, but then 2.2mm for the nuchal translucency. I am currently 12+3days. We've opted to do the Panorama DNA blood screen, though results take 7-12 days to come back. In the meantime I've been freaking out, and of course scouring the internet for more information. The only thing is, everything I read says that "normal" results are anything under 2.5-3mm. This leads me wondering: is the doctor being overly cautious, are their different standards, or could something be wrong? My experience with the scan was completely different with this pregnancy than my last, and they seemed to push many more tests this go around. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

  • My OB also told me under 3 mm is normal. I would not stress - I also know people who were told that their babies had markers for downs at this test and their children were perfectly healthy at birth. The doctor probably just figures your insurance will cover it if it is a follow up to another test - I think they get excited to get as much info as possible when they can (which isn't a bad thing). FXFY :)

  • The measurement on its own means very little. Its the combination of the NT measurement, maternal age & weight, and concentration of specific proteins in the blood (PAPP-A blood test). It usually takes 1-2 weeks for all of that data to be analyzed and a risk factor to be determined. It seems like jumping the gun to me to jump to a higher level test when you haven't gotten results from the first. Are you paying out of pocket for the Panorama?
  • @onceUponAPickle‌ they didn't do any bloodwork with you 12 wk NT ultrasound? I had get blood work atleast 1 week before so it was there for the geneticist to use with the NT measurements. LO measured 1.3 mm. with that, my info, and bloodwork levels The genecist gave me probabilities for chromonsoal issues. Risk was thr lowest you can get with avg prob for my age/weight etc... is 1in560. My probability was 1 in 20000+. So I would just sit tight as anything under 3 mm is good and you need to get your blood results, BUT remember the screen is just a probabilty of risk not 100% going to happen etc... just be patient :)
