I had to take the generic version of Zofran from 12 wks to about 16 wks, and frankly, I am nearly 21 weeks now...and still need anti-nausea medication, but I've pushed myself to not take it. I have bad hyperemesis (HG), and it's been a struggle.
I had to take it just to make it a full work day! There are risks with nearly everything, but I feel certain that our OB's would not prescribe something that harmful to our babies! Cleft palate can occur because of a number of reasons!
I just had a 20 wk anatomy scan and everything was perfectly normal!
Working along side a great obgyn we do offer zofran if it's truly needed because sickness can harm mother and baby. there is always a risk to every single thing you consume. But these commercials and lawyers are only out for money there are to many variables in life with pregnancy and clefting. My amazing husband and daughter had a cleft lip and palate, so much ignorance is thrown around with lawyers that know nothing about background, mutations, genetics, or environmental issues. Luckly this pregnancy has made it this far I have hg and it's helped me tremendously and my little guy is not expected to have clefting
I took Zofran most of my pregnancy with my second child. He was born with a heart defect that was not found until he was 2 weeks old. Did Zofran cause it? Idk. I won't ever know. I was offered Zofran with this baby but chose not to take it, just in case. Who really knows? I just decided after knowing the struggles with my second child that I didn't want to repeat them with my fourth. I was never sick with my first or third.
