Ugh. Dental work??

Why o why must we get sick when we're pregnant?!  no fun at all. I've been coughing like a crazy person. I can't breathe out of either side of my nose.  My throat is sore. And I have a toothache.  At first I thought maybe it was my sinuses making my jaw/teeth hurt but it's only on the right side and I'm pretty sure it's my farthest back molar.  Yay me!  I was going to call my dentist this morning. Not sure if she'll do dental work when pregnant though.  I had a filling break off early in my pregnancy.. I was about 14 weeks.. she would not fully restore it. She was able to clean out the decay and she put a temporary filling in but that's all she would do.  This one is on the other side of my mouth and it's really hurting. It was hurting so much last night that I couldn't sleep.  I was searching online for natural remedies and there was a blog about making a salt and pepper paste.. rubbing it on the tooth.. rinsing and repeating.  I finally did that at 3am last night because I couldn't fall asleep. 

I did the rinse again this morning. Took a tylenol when I got to work this morning.  It feels a little better since tylenol but yikes!

Should I be calling my OB before calling the dentist? She was so apprehensive to do a full repair on my broken filling. I'm nervous she won't fix this because I'm pregnant but I have 15 weeks left. I can't just remain in pain for 15 weeks!

Sorry about the pain on top of your cough!  I would go to the dentist to stop the problem from progressing at least.  I suppose you could benefit from calling the OB to see what they're comfortable with.  I know it changes from trimester to trimester.  Good luck.

You're in the second trimester - best time to go to the dentist in pregnancy. You can have lidocaine if you need to be frozen; i had a filling restored with a bit of lidocaine and was totally comfortable, although the dentist did give me a smaller dose and worked quickly just to be extra safe.  I would fix that without delay and save yourself further pain...

if you are having pain, it is much un-safer to wait to after delivery to fix it than to fix it now!  If your current dentist won't do it, I would find another who would.  Waiting could cause it to get much worse and possible allow infection to travel through your blood.

Thanks ladies.  So i did go yesterday to my dentist.. and I did check with my OB first and they said it was totally fine.  My dentist tried really hard to avoid xrays .. did all kinds of test but my pain was too spread out among three different molars that she couldn't really pinpoint it so we did do two xrays yesterday. But did them on the lowest level and I was double leaded.  I had two aprons over me.. completely covered up.  Xrays were negative. No cavity. No abcess.  She said there was a piece of filling broke off caught between my teeth that was causing my gums to swell and that was likely causing the throbbing.  She said she couldn't completely rule out a cracked tooth so she gave me a referral to an endo and said if pain is not improved by Wednesday to call them. Also sent me home with a salt water syringe which really really helps.  I've been flushing between the teeth twice a day with the warm salt water and that feels awesome.  The pain is significantly less today than it has been. 

Also wondering if this could be mostly  my sinuses?  I am so sick. I feel like absolute dog poo. I've never really had issues with sinus infections.  Do they require antibiotics or will they just go away?  I don't really want to medicate if I don't have to but I'm two weeks now with this sickness.  Coughing is getting a little bit better.. but my congestion just keeps staying pretty consistent.  It seems clear.. then it's gunky again.. then it's bad and I can't breathe.. it will not leave me alone. 

i actually think I might go home early today from work and lay down.  I just feel like garbage.

 Sorry you are feeling so cruddy,@niknak1208.  Any chance it could be allergy related?  I only ask because I have been suffering through with allergies for the past week.  Coughing, congestion, exhaustion.  It sucks and there's nothing I can do about it,  Claritin never worked for me, and I don't really want to take it anyway.

Glad you got some relief from the dentist.  Surprised that she was so concerned.  My OB/GYN encouraged me to have my dental work done.  I did decline the novacaine for my deep cleaning though.  I figured how painful could it be?  Plus, I am really trying to be better about pain since I know there will be a lot to take during delivery, lol.

I think it's a virus because DS had it first. He's Just now getting over it. DH has it too but he seems to be mending too. DD seems ok. I just can't get rid of it! And I can't take anything thY helps! Sometimes I take a Tylenol but it doesn't really do much. .

I left work at noon. Took a nap. Still feel like crap. Boo!!

Go back to sleep and rest, if you can.  Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better soon. Tylenol sucks lol. FX tooth pain goes away. I had a root canal done at 36 wks. It was awful so I blame that on mmy water breaking that night lol. Rest up girl!!!

BeckyP005  a root canal is what I was afraid of!!  She said she couldn't rule out a tooth crack so if the pain continued through today .. she wanted me to call the endo.  But I think it's actually doing a lot better.  It seems much less painful today so I'm thinking it's probably not cracked.  Tylenol seriously does suck.  Now if I can get rid of this stupid cough.. that would be fantastic! I swear I must have peed my pants 10 times yesterday coughing too hard!

Poise pads are your friend girl!!!! Gosh I hope it's not a root canal!!

Not sure if you remember but it took me 4 months get rid of my cough only to have another type of cough now. FX your cough goes away quick. I feel like I'm going to live in pads and cough rest of my life lol

Seriously this cough sucks. And this congestion!! It's like it clears up and it's clear and then it looks like infection again. I seem like I can breathe and then I can't breathe at all! It's SO annoying. I can't sleep! Either because I'm coughing or because I can't breathe or have to pee. Lol. Geesh.

OMG!  You STILL have a cough @BeckyP005??  That's crazy.  I somehow missed your root canal thing too.  I hope you make more progress as you recover from the delivery.
