Postpartum body

Re: Postpartum body

  • I wanted to just throw out there that I highly recommend seeing a physical therapist for diastasis. Insurance will likely cover it and it's super helpful... The lady I'm seeing has helped me with some exercises to relieve back pain too. There's a ton of bad info online about how to heal it so personal support is really helpful. I've been able to close my gap from four fingers to two in a month or so and my tummy is slowly but surely looking better. It has given me some great knowledge for future pregnancy too.

  • I have looked into seeing a physical therapist for my diastis. Unfortunately I need a referral and my OB says that nothing can actually reverse the damage so she won't write me one. Which is beyond annoying.

  • @diz1313 - Maybe try another OB/GYN for a second opinion? Or a nurse practitioner? I found that OB/GYNs are better for pregnancies and pathologies but for chronic pain or discomfort, nurse practitioners are more patient and open. It's also usually pretty easy to get an appointment with one. They can pretty much do everything a doctor can do (such as writing referrals).

Oh that is so frustrating and not true!!

  • I've still not lost any of the weight I gained. I just can't find the time between baby/housework/errands/life. The time I do get (which can be about 30-45 minutes where LO naps) I spend that time doing things around the house or resting myself because I stay so tired. LO doesn't sleep long these days during the night so I'm at that 4 month regression and feel like I've been in that boat since 3 months! It doesn't help when you live in a culture different from yours and you are seen as 'mom' and 'wife' and your duties and job are doing everything at home on top of taking care of the husband and the kids.

Sorry that may have turned into a rant, haha. I've been frustrated lately about my weight so it's coming out in other forms as well because I don't get help/support from my husband so much. He says he's 'rooting' for me but I need more than that.
  • I have lost all 30 pounds but things don't fit the same. My stomach is still pudgy yet my thighs got really skinny so my pants are baggy in the thighs and tight on the stomach. I'm not worrying about it too much though. I work out a few days a week .
  • I'm about 10 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight and 2 week pp I was constantly told that I looked like I'd never had a baby. However, I have what I lovingly call my "mom pouch". Basically my belly looks flat but I still have a little pouch at the bottom. My belly skin is a little wrinkly, I have bright pink stretch marks spanning from hip to hip across the front and my belly button looks a little stretched. But I'm ok with it and am working toward losing the last of my baby weight and going for walks with DS 3-4 times a week and doing workout DVDs in my living room. It's the healthy eating that's been the hardest!

WoW---I kind of feel bad. I was down to my PP weight 2.5 weeks postpartum. I gained 23 pounds while pregnant but I had agreed to participate in a medical school study on nutrition/exercise during pregnancy for overweight women. I suspect my immediate weight loss relates more so to a nutritionist badgering me for 5 mos and the fact that my DD did a lot of cluster feedings her first 2 months than genetics. Because no other female in my family has ever had the same results. And my body composition has changed. While my abs were fine, I've definitely lost muscle mass/definition in my butt. In some ways (since I'm nursing), I look better now than I did pre-pregnancy. Though I'm sure that this will not last...
  • I've always been really skinny — so this postpartum weight thing has taken me by surprise. I'm back up to 124 (from FINALLY hitting 120 a few weeks ago) and I'm not really sure why. I'm as active as I can be with a 5-month old and we are generally very healthy eaters (living in California, it's part of the culture). I feel like if I have even a bite of a cookie, I'll be +1.5 the next day. Does being heavier and/or pregnancy make you gain weight more quickly? My new goal is just to lose 2 lbs per month — thinking that would be easier, but it's still challenging! If I can get to 112 (my old "heavy" weight) by December, I'll be elated. I suppose it will be at least mid-2016 before I'll be 104 - 106 again, if ever!!

Sorry for the rant, I'm just so frustrated by this!!
  • I have used 3 body wraps from It works and those really helped me!
