Pants to tight?

This is my first pregnancy, when did you start wearing maternity clothes?  I started eating healthier, drinking more water and moving more at the end of the year so I've been losing 1 -1.5 lbs a week since the first of the year but the last week or two my pants have been digging into my stomach while I sit at my desk at work.  Maybe I'm just uncomfortable in general.  I am 7w1d.

Re: Pants to tight?

  • This is my first I'm 6w5d. I feel your pain. I'm js wearing sweats and my husband shorts. Leggins are my friend.
  • OMG my pants were totally digging into my tummy at work yesterday. So uncomfy. I am 6W2D and have been pretty bloated the last 2 weeks so I think that's what it is. I may have to start using the hair tie trick around jeans for sitting purposes already

  • Use a hair tie and get a belly band so you can wear your pants unzipped under! With my first I didn't really show until 5 months but I had random bloating which made my work pants uncomfortable. Bella band saved me!
  • With my first pregnancy I was in maternity by 6 weeks but I went through IVF and all those drugs made me gain and bloat like crazy. With my second, I held out until about 9 weeks. This one though.....I'm down weight wise, but I am so bloated it's my fat jeans and yoga pants :)
    Due 10/4/2015 with my third
  • I'm still in my regular jeans but my bloating is starting to give me a b-belly. I'm about to start undoing my button and doing the hair tie trick just so my belly looks more round!

  • It's called bloat
  • It's called bloat

Um, not everyone has just bloat at 7 weeks. Don't be so insensitive.

    IT'S ALL BABY!!!!!
  • Guess I've asked a stupid question. I'll delete as soon as I figure out how to. I may be 31 but this being my first time pregnant I'm new to this website.

QFP Now you can't delete Muhahahaha!
  • I'm 6w3d and I'm definitely starting to feel my jeans tighter than usual..guess I'm going to start wearing my yoga pants more often..so not looking forward to that lol
  • You can go into maternity clothes whenever you want to. Just don't think it's because the sweet pea-sized baby is showing. It's all bloat.
  • I'm 7 weeks today and definitely feeling uncomfortable in my jeans. I'm super bloated, and it makes me look like i already have a bump.
  • @abkenyon‌ Not a stupid question! I was wondering about this too, and it's my first pregnancy as well. Even if it's just bloating or whatever, I did wonder when people start wearing maternity clothes...I've been very uncomfy in my jeans and I'm only 5w5d. I'm definitely hanging into sweatpants asap every day when I get home from work :)
  • @abkenyon‌ it is not a stupid question there have been waaaaayyyy worse ones asked on this board:) since it is your first pregnancy you may not know what the hair tie trick is. If you google pregnancy hair tie trick it will show you (even has a YouTube video). Some women are suggesting belly bands so you don't see the tie, which works but I personally wear target long and lean tanks under my shirts and that works great too. As for the when to buy maternity pants, whenever it will make you comfy I will tell you though if it's super early on maybe only buy a couple bc I liked underbelly pants in 2nd trimester but full panel pants in third trimester. Good luck!
  • I didn't start wearing maternity pants until around 20w with my first. I wasn't really showing but that was dumb bc my pants were still getting super tight lol! This time I'm going to wear them as soon as my pants feel tight.

  • Donuts will make your pants tight ladys. Lay off the junk
  • Bloat, donuts, babies, whatever is causing your pants to be tight, if you want to spring for some elastic-panel pants, go right ahead.

  • Don't delete just because one person is being rude. Ask and say what you want, there are others out there just like you!

No one is being rude. It's a scientific fact that if you're pants are too tight, it's not from the baby yet.

  • I'm 31, not 16 super pumped for my first baby to lock in my high school boyfriend. I work a corporate job and am not looking forward to maternity clothes because I don't want to spend the money on a new wardrobe. I have been losing weight since the beginning of last month so I know it's not baby weight. I was more asking to see if it's something I'm doing and can change. Am I drinking to much/not enough water? Am I eating the wrong things? Should I be eating something to help? My pants are loose when standing but dig into my stomach when I sit at my desk for 8.5 hours a day.
  • I think I started wearing maternity clothes around 12 weeks with my first pregnancy. It's normal to be bloated at this stage. You can use a hair tie or rubber band through the button hole of your pants so you can leave them unbuttoned and they won't dig into your stomach. Drinking water should help since it'll help prevent constipation and avoiding foods that make you bloated can help too. Other than that, blame the hormones! I only bought maybe 3 or 4 pairs of maternity pants (I have to dress professionally too) and Target had some pretty good deals.
  • If you feel super bloated, a belly band or the rubber band is a great choice.
Most women here, especially FTMs, can probably get by without maternity clothes until the Summer.
  • Belly bands are fantastic. I've used them for my other three pregnancies and will this time around. I love them!
  • I did the hair tie trick but could never make a belly band work. Mine always rolled up and cut into me :/

  • I could never get belly bands to work, but I LOVED the Belly Belt. I wore my favorite pre-pregnancy jeans till at least 12-14 weeks with my son using that.

I also liked maternity pants because they made me look pregnant instead of fat. Right now, I'm tempted to buy some for that reason, because while the baby is still tiny and all, it's the pregnancy making me look fat. My diet has gotten healthier and I've lost 5 lbs, so otherwise I should be getting thinner. Lol

  • I am just 7 wks along and also find my pants to be tight and have started using a belly band. While I know that it is primarily bloating and water weight rather than the baby, I wanted to add something else yo that simple statement. I was rather large before getting pregnant (about 210 lbs), but have always had a flatter stomach from swimming, my weight is in my hips and thighs. But, starting around week 5, I noticed that the front of my stomach is fatter / more pouched out. And I realized while sitting in a meeting that my natural habit of sitting up straight and sucking my stomach in so that my weight didn't show over my pants as love handles is no longer possible. I'm guessing that even though the baby is very small that my muscles are already readjusting because it is very uncomfortable to suck in my stomach, making it difficult to wear pants that I had squeezed my larger self into beofrey. Anyways, I hadn't heard anyone mention this here and thought that pointing out that our different body types / sizes might contribute to our very different bloat bump experiences and is definitely why I need a belly band already.
  • With DD, I retained a lot of water throughout the first trimester, which I attribute to my craving salt (and feeding that craving). I also know that I get bloated easily when I am PMSing, so I kind of expected it. Whether you're bloated or it's baby, I don't think it should matter. What matters is that you're comfortable! Were maternity pants whenever you want. My abdomen was super tender in my first pregnancy, so not having pants that dig in when I sit down was paramount to my comfort. Enjoy the stretchy waste bands whenever you need!
