TDaP reaction?

So I got my TDaP shot on monday and I'm having an unusual reaction.  My OB was quite surprised when I showed her the bright red and raised circle on my arm where the shot was given.  Now she wants me to take benadryl around the clock for 24 hours and gave me a prescription of antibiotics just in case.  Not looking for medical advice, just wondering if this had happened to anyone else.  I'm thinking I might not be able to get the TDaP again in the future after this reaction.  Anyone with a similar experience?

Re: TDaP reaction?

  • I am sorry that happened to you. I got my TDaP shot on Wednesday and my arm still is sore but that is all. Hope the Benadryl works.

  • I had something similar.  It was raised, red and itchy.  But it was very obviously where the bandage was.
My doctor and I think mine was a latex allergy.  Occasionally, I get a similar issue when having blood work if they don't use the paper tape.  It's still there almost 2 weeks later, but has gone down considerably.
I've never had an allergy before, but every year it seems to get worse.
  • I had my shot wednesday, with the same reaction. Red raised bump, from what I read that's normal.
  • I had my shot last week but no reaction other than tenderness for a few days. I hope it gets better soon for you.
  • I had the same reaction. My arm was red, swollen, itchy for a few days and it was painful to sleep on it. Hope you feel better soon.
  • My MD said that might happen if I had a tetanus shot in last couple of years.
  • Mine was the same way I even felt like I was getting sick the day after. From the paper work I received that's pretty normal. I wouldn't take anything and just wait a few days. Mine was super sore and red for about 4+ days. It will go away though. Good luck.
  • Well I took the benadryl and it cleared right up.  Apparently a mild allergy to something in the shot, but all better now.  My OB just said that it's a good thing that this is my last kid.  Actually she says that quite a bit...

  • Hopefully it goes away soon. I had a similar reaction to the TDap right after having my second son. I had a painful raised large red bump that didn't go down for weeks. But it did eventually go away. I was told most likely it was because I had had another TDap vaccine within the past 2 years. I just had another TDap a few weeks ago(my 3rd in the last 6 years) and other than soreness of my arm for a few days after, I didn't have any bumps or reactions this time.

  • I had the raised, red bump on my arm and the tenderness finally went away after a week. I had nausea and cold sweats with it, too :(
