High-Risk Pregnancy

Comprehensive Ultrasound Question

Hi Ladies,

I am approximately 18/19 weeks pregnant, have 2 very large fibroids and my doctor has termed me high risk as well as scheduling a Comprehensive Ultrasound with a specialist.  My doctor has said that he wants a better understanding of blood flow to the baby and the fibroids, but from everything that I have found online, the comprehensive doesn't seem much different than the regular ultrasound that I have gotten every time I have been to see my regular OB.

Can any one give me some insight about what to expect and maybe tell me the differences between the regular ultrasound and the comprehensive?

Thank you!

Re: Comprehensive Ultrasound Question

  • I had one of these done as I was termed high risk as well.  During mine, they checked the blood flow in the umbilical cord and the placenta as well as in the baby.  They were able to "color" it so that they could see where oxygenated and non oxygenated blood was.  It was pretty cool to watch.  They looked at every little thing and did a lot of measuring.  I had mine at 16 weeks.

  • that helps so much! I love my doctor, but he can sometime skimp on the details. Makes sense what you are saying, the dr. kept saying that he has concerns about blood flow.

    Much appreciated!
