I had a bad experience with my first appointment at Denver Health, so now I am thinking about South Denver Midwives and Littleton Adventist. Any experience?
I can't talk about delivering there but I work in the ER and it's a fantastic hospital. Go on a tour there and get a feel for it. Plus it's right by Children's so if anything goes wrong (knock on wood and fx for you and baby!) you are nearby!!
I just wanted to share that I had a really positive experience with the Comfort Measures birth class offered through Littleton Hospital. I feel so much more prepared for labor than I did after taking my required natural birth class, through Mountain Midwifery, prior to the birth of our first child. I think we only paid $40 for it, compared to a $250 class that taught us very little.
Wanted to update again, for any moms looking for a natural-birth- friendly hospital. I had an unmedicated childbirth on Friday, and they were so accomodating. I had to be on eletronic fetal monitoring for only a small portion of my labor. The darn thing fell off, and the nurse actually held it on me while I labored in the position I wanted. It made a huge difference in my ability to avoid an epi.
I delivered via a scheduled x-section at Littleton on Aug 17. I was unfortunately a 1% er. Meaning our baby boy was perfect but just about everything that could go wrong for me did. I can't imagine being anywhere else but there. Everytime something scary happened to me it was caught immediately and treated. The whole time I was there was more like a hotel stay, the nurses and Drs were incredible always asking if we needed anything. Help with breast feeding, diapering, feedings, making sure Dad was holding up under the stress...they made it so we were never afraid despite the gravity of my situation. I highly recommend going to Littleton Adventist, I feel like I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for them .
@nofrogs@crystalbergeron@TaraGoldenCO I'm finding it hard to decide between home birth/birth center/hospital birth with my midwife there. I live in Evergreen, so I'm nervous that I'm too far from a hospital in case of emergencies during home birth. I haven't looked into Littleton Adventist at all yet. Can any of you comment on their natural birth practices and relationships with midwives that a mom-to-be brings into the hospital? (sorry, responding late to this post. I'm due in late August. I'm happy to hear that you all had such positive birthing experiences!)
@HighCountryCait I started out with a midwife but switched to a doctor when my pregnancy became high risk. When I delivered at Littleton Adventist, I was living about 45 minutes away. We had no problem getting there, but we knew where our backup hospital would be if we couldn't make it.
I can't speak to their midwifery practices, but I had a wonderful birth experience there. The staff was respectful of our wishes, attentive to our needs, and professional in all aspects.
I'm also due in August and plan on delivering there again, no question!
ETA My midwife was through South Denver Midwives and I switched to a doctor through the sister practice, South Denver OBGYN. I highly recommend both!
I had a fantastic experience there for a high-risk birth. Wonderful staff and facilities. My doctor, Dr. McCullough, at the women' practice next to the hospital was also great.
