I've already sent out invites to my baby shower (for my second baby). I thought it would be a creative way to announce my pregnancy. I plan to do a similar celebration at a gender reveal party as well. It's up to the guests to bring gifts but I know I'll have at least two baby showers. Why should I miss out on all the fun the second time around?

    Fucking barf.

My 2 cents: Asking for a party is tacky. But if someone wants to throw a party for someone they love, whether it's for their first child or their 10th, more power to them. If anyone offers tho throw me a shower or sprinkle for my 2nd, I'm not going to say no. The tacky police can jump all over that if they want. What's tacky is expecting someone else to take care of your baby, which is a far cry from accepting someone's offer of a shower.
    Exactly what I said:)
  • From a manners perspective, a mother should have ONE shower. That is for basic items parents need.  The idea is that those things (crib, swing, etc.) should be reused for subsequent children.  Asking for a shower, unfortunately, is bad manners. HOWEVER, if this is the standard in your family (do not follow traditional manners; have multiple showers), then have your shower.

On a personal level, I will not be asking or agreeing to any additional showers, even if I have a girl (my first is a boy).  It just doesn't fit with the way I was brought up.  And the diaper raffle?  I have to say that sounds VERY tacky.  Who has a raffle at a baby shower?  It sounds as tacky as those money dances people do at their weddings.  Just awful!

It just sounds a bit low brow to ask for friends/family to purchase basic items needed for a baby when they've already purchased them.  If a person cannot afford to buy those things, borrow/buy used items.
