Induction question

I'm 38 weeks and was taken out of work yesterday due to high blood pressure. At this point, there is no protein in my urine but my midwife has begun talking about induction at 39 weeks. I had hoped to have as intervention-free a birth as possible, but obviously will do whatever I need to in order to have a healthy baby/be healthy myself. Are there alternative methods of induction that I should be asking about before I accept Cervadil or Pitocin? Again, if I "need" those, I will do what I have to do, but I just want to make sure I'm aware of any additional options! Thank you in advance!

Re: Induction question

  • You can try old wives tales - walking, eggplant/chicken parmeasan (my friend swore to the eggplant parm-I did the chicken and nothing-is has something to do with the herbs in the sauce); sex-sex-sex; pineapple (but you have to eat a crapton!); a lot of chocolate, warm bath...etc. With my first nothin I did started labor but I know a lot of other people who tried stuff that worked. Bouncing/sitting in a workout ball. Good luck!

  • You could try getting your membranes stripped. It only works if your body is ready and it is invasive.
  • I'm in the same boat as you, however my blood pressure is fluctuating so each visit it seems like we go back and forth between induction at 39 weeks and everything is ok to wait for spontaneous labor. In addition to what PP have said I'm also getting massages and she is working trigger points that can induce labor.
