Pregnant after 35

Well this is a bummer...

For me at least, who hasn't been able to give up my cup a day. It's now being recommended that pregnant women cut out coffee completely:

  • Not to dismiss science, but my mom had at least two cups a day and I came out fine.

  • I'm not doin' it. I'm just not. I don't have caffeine every day, but I let myself have 2 servings of Pepsi while I'm working tending bar from 5pm to 2am (I work 2 days a week). It comes to just over 100mg of caffeine, and its a sweet treat that helps me push thru a really long, late shift. Otherwise all we can drink is water, water, and more water. And maybe some juice. And water is boring. Really really boring. I do my part and drink a lot of it like I'm supposed to, but that's exactly why I should be allowed to treat myself 2 or 3 days a week with a sugary, caffeinated treat.

  • I think it's always good to cut down, but I kept up a big cup in the morning and one in the afternoon with DS and things were just fine, this time around I really can't stomach it and prefer water. I wish I wasn't turned off by it because I'm so freaking tired!

  • So I have been having babies for a pretty long time now.  And over that time things you are "allowed" to do and "not allowed" to do come and go and come back again over the years!  That applies to pregnancy related things and baby related things once they are born too. 

    the coffee/caffeine intake thing has been on of the common come around, go around topics.  When I got pregnant with my first you were cautioned not to get in the same room with any caffeine from any source (yes that is a little eaggerated but you get that point it was a no no)...you were told like no candy no chocolate ice cream, dont look at that chocolate cake, coffee was so forbidden!

    A few years later it was like oh go ahead and just be moderate....then it was just don't have any during the first trimester....just round and round. 

    What I suggest is do your best to make all around healthy choices in your pregnancy.  Being moderate in all things.
  • Listen to your body. If you believe that you are doing harm by taking in coffee, chances are you will stress more about the affects of coffee. Stress is bad. Don't stress about these things. I dumped out half a cup of coffee today because I started to feel weird. Trust yourself to know what makes you feel ok and what is going to do you harm.
    This is similar to the debate regarding wine. I know that wine makes me feel like s when I am not pregnant so I don't need a study to tell me to avoid something that makes me feel like s. Too much coffee makes me feel like s too. So I will make sure not to drink it just because it's in front of me like I would have 3 months ago.
