Mucus Plug or something else?

I may be worrying about nothing but wanted to see what others thought!

I'm a FTM and had my 39 week check up today and have made zero progress as far as effacement and only at a 'tight 2'. My dr went on and scheduled me for an induction for Monday, my due date.

I've been home for about 3 hours and just went to the bathroom and as I was getting up, I heard a 'plop' into the water and saw a dime/nickel sized brownish/reddish colored clump and some drops of blood fall in, then a little more blood on the TP.

I've bled a little after my previous check ups, but nothing that involved a clump! Do you think this was my mucus plug coming out or should I call the after hour line? Since I'm new to all of this I wanted to get other mom opinions before I completely panic

Sounds like it! No I don't think you need to call your Dr. for that. Labor may be soon or it may not. You need to wait for your water to break or have contractions timeable at 5-1-1 before you call the Dr.

I swore to myself I would never talk mucus plug, however sounds like you are starting to loose yours. I personally had no idea how big it really was. Be prepared it could come out several more times.

Thanks for breaking your vow to help me out lol. You would think they would come up with a better name for it! I wondered if that's what it was. It only happened the one time earlier this evening and hasn't happened since. This exam was a little more uncomfortable than the previous ones so I wondered.. I've also had some cramping this evening but nothing steady or regular so I'm going to chalk it up to the exam as well!

My plug came out a week before DS was born. It's not a very precise sign that labor is imminent. Keep an eye on it, take note of any extra bleeding, and stay calm. Good luck!

Lost mine 2 weeks ago, went into hospital 2/1 with contractions 2 mins apart. Sent home bc I wasn't dilated enough. Still pregnant with a DD of 2/11. So from experience you can lose it and labor can still be weeks away good luck !!

I called the on call OB today about something else and I also told her that my mucous plug has been coming out and she responded with the fact that there's no textbook explanation of mucous plugs coming out as significant.
