Back pain-

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and I know back pain is normal; however I finally broke down and went to chiro after it started hurting to stand, sit, lay down, anything. He said I had ribs out (right below where my bra clasps, to the right). It lasted a couple days, but I'm right back in the same pain with no relief.

He said it's because my one leg measures slightly longer than the other. I haven't done anything to make the rib(s) slip out again. Does anybody know what I could do to avoid a $20 copay every 3 days?

I even noticed a difference in my breathing again today, didn't put it together before last visit.

As I said I know back pain is normal, but does anybody know of any exercises or back rests I could do/purchase to refrain from ribs being out? I already bought good shoes. My husband is great tho and does rub my back often, but it doesn't help it when it's like this.

Please help!

Re: Back pain-

  • Wow, so sorry you're experiencing this! I have back pain too, but yours sounds like it's worse than normal. I don't have any advice but I do have sympathy!

  • Lol, I was not going to post because I have the normal back pain now and then, but this is just abnormal!
Thanks! Hope yours gets better too!
  • I had this last spring. Rotate heat and ice along with rest is really all you do. I feel for you. Mine lasted about 3 weeks. Take it easy.
  • I think both of those things are common for chiropractors to say. I know they said it to me too but when I talk to my physical therapist they have some different ideas. Physical therapist said only way to relieve the pain on a more permanent basis is to train the muscles to keep you in the right position. I think chiropractic care is really more of a temporary fix. Now if I could just make myself do my therapy exercises! I guess my pain isn't bad enough yet or I would do it. Sorry you're experiencing it too. I've got chronic back and hip pain problems pre-pregnancy. It's no fun. Like PP said sometimes ice helps or you could try Epson salt baths or a prenatal massage, chiropractic care or acupuncture when it's extreme or Physical therapy. I try a little bit of everything. Good luck to you!
  • Found out at 21 weeks I had kidney stones.... Had a stent put in and pain in my stomach and back is completely gone! I get an uncomfortable feeling in my bladder, but it's nothing compared to the pain.
Doctor said stomach isn't usually associated with kidney stones, but maybe because I'm so small (weighed 85 and 4'9) before pregnancy that everything is just very very cramped in there.
Thank you all for your advice!
  • I have pain the the same area. It woke me up this morning. I went to the chiropractor and had a massage last week, but that only helped for a few days. Alternating with hot and cold packs today.
  • I've had ribs out before. It's painful and very identifiable to me now. My go to solution has always been the chiro. A possible solution is to take a tennis ball and place it on the "spot" and press on a hard surface like a wall. It may help it go back in, but in my experience this has only been a temporary solution, I have always gone to the chiro to get it put back in. As pp suggested, a good massage therapist might be a nice addition to help KEEP that rib in place once the chiro has pushed it back in.
  • I started seeing a chiropractor about the same time and my hip pain during the night did go away. As an FYI. He also started work on my belly at 28 weeks to free up space for baby to get head down which is a bonus. My midwife recommended strongly.
