if this sweet baby girl doesn't put me in labor by 8 tonight I get to be induced. My ob told me they will be using a balloon to dilate me. Has anyone been through that. What am I facing here? I'm 40 weeks and 1 day..come on baby Quinn!
I went through that with my first born. They put a balloon catheter inside ur cervix and fill it up with saline to a specific amount. Every hour a nurse would come in and tug on it, when it comes out, you would be at a specific dilation (mine was 3cm). Doesn't hurt! It is supposed to help your body release prostaglandins to begin natural dilation, since I was 42 weeks with no signs of labor. They then used pitocin afterwards to keep contractions regular and strengthen them. Good luck tomorrow!! Sending labor vibes
40 weeks isn't "really early". Baby is considered full term. My physician will not make his patients go past 41 weeks. Some doctors are different but there is no harm in 40 weeks.

Is there a reason you are induced at 40+1? Sounds really early to me unless there are other complications.
I didn't mean there was harm in being induced at 40w, sorry if I was unclear. Just that EDD is an estimation and labor could start any day without induction so I wanted to be clear on the reason for inducing now. No need to induce if your body can start the process on its own is what I'm thinking. Although that wasn't really the OP's question so I'm getting a little OT here... My hospital (actually, almost any hospital in my country) won't induce until 42w unless there are medical issues so that's why I'm curious...
