My 18 month old son has had on and off vomiting and diarrhea for the past 10 days. Some days it's only 1 bad diaper, some days it's 4. He vomits (only in the evening or overnight so far) about every other day. No fevers, still eating (BRATY diet, water, some Gatorade) with a probiotic once per day. Doctor says it's probably a virus that will take time to recover from because his intestines were probably messed up from it. Has anyone else dealt with this? I know the diarrhea can persist for weeks after a GI bug, but is the on and off vomiting also typical? Thanks...

When my DD was 11 months she got the flu and for about a week after her gag reflex was very strong and had diarrhea so we had to be careful what we gave her to eat. Dr said same thing about intestines being inflamed and needing time to get back to normal. We did Udo's Choice infant probiotic daily until she was back to normal, but its was slow going. I think you prob just need to give it some more time, but should be close to over hoepfully if you are on day 10 already. Good luck Mama!

Ok thanks...this has been really frustrating! We are almost to 2 weeks now. I could see my son having the strong gag reflex too.. I knew the diarrhea could and probably would persist for awhile but the vomiting (1x at night only) is making me nervous. What else were you feeding her?

We kept it really basic for a while, went back to purées by Plum organics until the gagging went away then brought back the more solid food. Keep in mind my DD was still under a year so we were still looking at solids as "just for fun". I'd make sure you stayed with really bland easy to digest food items. Nothing too spicy and don't push it if your son isn't that interested in food. I'd just let him call the shots on when he was all done for a while. If he is still having diarrhea give him things like bananas, cheese, pasta because they are binding foods to help keep his poops more solid. Plus the probiotic. Avoid things like beans and rasins, P fruits, since they help get rid of constipation and will just make him "go" more.

I know this post has been up for awhile, but my daughter (21 months) is having a similar issue. We've been to the doctor and were told it was probably a virus she picked up at daycare. We are going on day 10 as well now, and almost every night like clockwork she vomits between midnight-2am and has gone only 2 days during this time without diarrhea. Not to give TMI, but her vomit is always undigested food, particularly her lunch (which is usually a sandwich/veggies/fruit), but never what she's had for dinner. I don't understand! It's freaking me out because during the day she is completely normal, no fever, happy little girl...you'd never know she was doing this at night. I've tried to pinpoint if it is a certain food/drink that is causing it...her appetite is normal. This is the first time I've found any post online with a similar issue. I guess it somewhat put my mind at ease that we weren't the only one this has ever happened to. If this is a flu type of virus, it sure is the strangest one I've ever seen. We are just becoming very tired and looking for a solution, hopefully it will pass soon
