7 week old won't nap!

My DD is 7 weeks old and does not nap during the day. She usually sleeps well at night but even when she's exhausted during the day she will not nap. I make sure she's not hungry, her diapers clean, she's been played with, lights and other distractions are off but even on the rare occasion I can get her to doze off, she'll sleep for maybe 20 minutes before waking up upset again. Has anyone else gone through this and have any suggestions on what I can do? Is this normal or could she possibly have a cold?

  • What are you trying?

White noise-- a CD on loop or the static from the radio. Make sure it's fairly loud. It could be that it's too quiet. It's normally noisy in the womb.

Some kids just suck at napping. Do you start the process as soon as the eye-rubbing, yawning & spaced looks start? You could be waiting too long to start putting her down.

  • My DS is also 7 weeks and we have been encountering the same issue the last several days. Yesterday I decided to try his crib (he's been sleeping nights in there since 5weeks and I really didn't want to mess that up by having him nap in there also) but I got him take a 3 hour nap yesterday!!! Today unfortunately we had doctors appointments, he did fall asleep in the car which he always does, so when we got home I left him in his car seat to nap and in total he slept almost 2 hours. These long days of crappy naps have been making him very fussy so Im hoping we can figure this out too.
  • We swaddle her and have whit noise (ocean sound) playing. She doesn't usually give tired cues:-/. She'll be content playing one second and the next is screaming because she's tired. When she does give cues we swaddle and rock her until drowsy before putting her inner cradle but she's awake in 5 mins.
She's been better the last few days though so I'm hoping it was just a phase.
