Infertility

Hi and curious re: 1st IVF protocol

Hi, we started TTC less than 1 yr ago following his VR but found out I have low AMH shortly after, while waiting to see if his counts got a little better.  Because low AMH and MF, we're going straight to IVF.  Doing a short protocol, with high dose stims, Follistim 600/day.  Starting Lupron on CD1.  So, a little apprehensive to see how this goes.  Seems there are so many possibilities. Anyone have experience with a similar scenario?  Thanks in advance

Pending IVF #1 end of 2/2015

Re: Hi and curious re: 1st IVF protocol

  • Lupron or microdose Lupron is very common with DOR/low AMH. I just started a similar protocol for IVF #4, but they think I'll stim at least 12 days.

    Good luck!

    Everyone welcome!

  • Thanks and good luck with your cycle too! I was happy to see my RE come out of the gates with an aggressive protocol but it makes the reality of this start to sink in also.

  • I think an aggressive approach is great! Many women find success with their first IVF, but for some of us, the first ends up being something of test to see how you respond to the meds. If you don't find success with this cycle, I highly recommend you read "It Starts With the Egg," and I'm a big fan of Circle + Bloom's IVF/IUI meditation discs, which you could start anytime.

  • I like the idea of the meditation discs, thanks.  I do need to look into that, because I guess it's the mental aspect of this that has me freaked out the most. What amazes me from lurking around on here are all the different possible scenarios on how this could all go down, in terms of response to meds, retrieval, fertilization, 3 day, 5 day, and etc.  It's overwhelming.  I'm in the medical field, so I'm not too freaked out about the shots, although I don't look forward to them.  I couldn't imagine what this is like for someone not comfortable with medical stuff to deal with that plus the mental/emotional aspect.

  • I was pretty freaked about the shots, before I started, but I figure I've easily done more than 200 with all the different things we've tried, so now it's not a big deal. I think that you are probably better off than some by being freaked about the mental aspect and all the different potential outcomes. I just assumed of course it would all go perfectly with my first and I'd have a ton of frozen embryos for future children, so it was pretty devastating when I had no frozen and no BFP! I didn't ask enough questions and wasn't as engaged in the process early on, as I should have been. I assumed they would tell me everything I needed to know. I only found this board right before my beta; I sure wish I'd found it before I started.

  • @carol778, I am right there with you. I totally assumed the doctor and nurses would tell me everything I needed to know. Not the case. So, now I'm doing a lot more research on my own!
  • I thought I would just have all of these embryos too. It's only through reading other people's experiences that I now realize how many outcomes are possible. I'm not as excited to get started as I first was. Now I feel like I'm just closing my eyes and hoping for the best! But huge thanks to people who share their experiences so that others can go into this more realistic. Anyone I've told just thinks I'm going to have this litter of kids, which is so far from accurate. Here's to calming thoughts and wishing everyone else the best.
