Need help with slideshow wording

in Toddlers: 24 Months+
I am making a slide show for my DS 1st b-day and I need help with wording. I want to say something about him coming into our lives for the first part and then at the end I want to say something like how he has made our lives complete but I am not good with words.

    What about...

    When he came in to our lives, we thought we would teach him so much...he ended up teaching us so much instead.
