Baby Names

First name & middle name end in same sound, or middle & last?

Name decisions have been really tough for us. We've got time and our girls' name list is narrowed down to 4.

All 4 names end in -a. We have a VERY Italian last name that ends in the -EE sound. (Think spaghetti.) It's very important to DH and I that we use either a variant of Mary, or a title/name that refers to Mary (as in the Virgin Mary). This baby was conceived while we were saying a rosary novena, and we want the middle name to remind us of that.

So, which "sounds" better, to have a first name and middle name ending in -a (for example, middle name would be Regina or Rosaria) or to have middle name and last name both ending in the same sound (for example, Mary or Marie with our last name ending in -ee).

Or am I overthinking this? LOL

I don't think it matters too much either way since you won't be saying the whole name together that often. It's kind of hard to really say without knowing all the names, but for what it's worth I really like Rosaria
  • What about Maria?
  • I wouldn't have the first and last names rhyme; it sounds very cheesy. I would use a first and middle that both end with -a.

  • Personally, I would stay away from having any of them end similarly. Our last name ends in an -er sound and I've been careful not to pick names that end in the same sound (Asher for example) just my personal preference!
  • I like first and last. Middle and last is odd.
