I am not an expert and fail at this all the time but the crying is to much for me, I always go in and try to get him back to sleep. I will even pick him up and rock him back to sleep. To me it is more important that he takes a long nap then letting him put himself to sleep. Also my LO slept horrible until I got the Merlin Magic Sleep Suit this week and now he sleeps amazing and puts himself back to sleep.

Does your LO roll over? I stopped swaddling because mine was wiggling out of it and rolling on his tummy. Do you think the sleep suit would be safe for a tummy sleeper?
My LO rolls but only from back to tummy and not back. He doesn't sleep on his tummy. He did like to sleep on his side but that just caused more/easier rolling when he would wake. The Merlin Magic Sleep Suit is not for tummy sleepers. It stops my little one from rolling to his tummy because it reduces his reaction to being startled or waking up. If he does roll to his belly in the suit ( which would be challenging) then he can't wear it anymore because it would be very dangerous. He wouldn't be able to use his arms to push up. But the likely hood of that happening right now is slim because the suit is comfy and fluffy but very supportive in the shape it holds. It's even hard for my LO to get his hands to his mouth. I leave one arm out for him to suck his finger.
He is a little over 5 months. I bought mine on Amazon. I got the cotton one cause we are in Southern California so it's never too cold. He only wears a onsie cause I'm scared he will be too hot but I do cover with a small/thin blanket (especially his feet). Anyways, he wears it for naps also. If you go to the company website I think there is a money back guarantee. The website is very helpful as well and on Amazon they have lots of reviews
I wanted to share that I bought the book The Happy Sleeper last week. I read it in one day and out what I learned into practice. It has made a HUGE difference. I highly recommend!
***I bought a Merlin for my LO in an effort to transition out of the swaddle. He only wore it once. It's a size 6-9 months. Let me know if you're interested.
I second the info @blondee4685 provided. Almost a replica of our situation. We bought one suit to try and ordered a second so I don't have to worry when to launder it. Naps and night sleep, just a onesue underneath. He loves it!
@Lena76 can you share what you learned about napping.... If possible? He sleeps well at night. Guess I'm being too picky. How much would you want for your Merlin? That's the perfect size
Sure! I was spending nearly all of my day trying to rock him to sleep only to have him wake up as soon as I laid him down.
Now I carry him into his nursery give him his lovey, sing Rock a Bye, tell him I love him and it's nap time, put him in his crib and walk away. Every 5 minutes( if he's still crying) I walk back in and repeat that I love him and it's nap time. Usually it takes no more than 7 minutes(1 check) for him to fall asleep. It's all about teaching him how to self soothe. The book does a better job explaining it but those are the highlights. Consistency is the key!
Is $25 too much for the sleep suit? I can send you a pic showing you that it's in perfect condition.
