my body is not my own anymore...please help.

I never had morning sickness. Hell I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was in my second trimester. I feel for those of you that did now. Apparently I am paying for not having it in the first trimester because all of the sudden....morning sickness. What can I do to help? And has anyone dealt with this? I know morning sickness is normal but I've never heard of not having it until the third trimester. Also, the poo situation....I just can't. Literally. I haven't been able to take a good colon cleansing shit in about a week and I am so uncomfortable. What has worked for you ladies? Thank you in advance!

Re: my body is not my own anymore...please help.

  • If you google both of these symptoms you will see that they are both normal. Also, Google has a lot of suggestions. Also, try to search through the forums for answers.

  • There are a lot of different medications on the market to help with morning sickness. Call your doctor. My doctor initially recommended vitamin B6 and journaling what foods made me sick. When that didn't help I was prescribed Diclegis.

A change in my diet helped with the constipation. I now include lots of leafy greens vegetables, fruit (green smoothies) and beans (made from dry). That helped me out.

With all of that I still don't feel like my body is my own anymore. I am very uncomfortable at 28 weeks. Good luck!
  • I take Zofran religiously (I still get sick at night), and as far as the other... fiber. So much fiber. I take an extra fiber supplement with my other vitamins every night. I also take a pro-biotic first thing in the morning!
  • I can't feel sorry for you.
I threw up every day multiple times a day until a few weeks before my DS was born. Not even medicine usually given to chemo patients helped.

As for shitting, yes that happens. It's most likely from the prenatal vitamins.

You should probably talk to your doctor.
  • @NagaWater‌ Weeks before DS was born? Bless your heart Mama! I'm not asking for sympathy. I know other women on this board have had it much much worse! Are there prenatal vitamins that are easier on the digestive system? I take Spring Valley which is honestly just the first ones I came to in the store.
  • I felt like my prenatals actually helped my bathroom situation. I was taking a generic prenatal and switched to Rainbow Light. The pills are huge but I felt the difference within a day. It was such an amazing feeling.

I agree. Ask your doc about Zofran. It was my life saver with sickness! I feel your pain!. Also my doc recommended Metamucil. . That also worked amazingly for constipation. I would definitely talk to your doctor though :) Best of luck!
  • Any chance your nausea is being caused by indigestion/heartburn? Only asking because mine is and when I remember to take Zantac/Pepcid I feel sooo much better. As for the other end, stool softener/more fiber intake? Obviously check with your doc or approved meds list before taking anything
  • I don't think it's caused by indigestion or heartburn. I've actually gotten that under control by taking Zantac as well. I don't know that I can up my intake of fruits and veggies much more. I eat fruit all day long and I always have veggies with meals. I have my 28 week check up tomorrow so I'm going to discuss it with my doctor. I just wanted to see what worked for everyone else up to this point.

I also take rainbow light and don't have pooping issues

  • From working in an OB-GyN office, I learned he prescribed a lot of Zofran for morning sickness and nausea. Also, he prescribed Colace if you couldn't poop. I hate not being able to help you much, I'm 29 weeks pregnant and haven't had any of the symptoms besides the pooping one from iron. Also if you're a grape person doesn't matter what color, freeze some over night and suck on them throughout the day that saved my brother's girlfriend throughout her pregnancy with nausea and heartburn

Vitamins with Iron tend to cause me to have constipation.  I switched to the gummies and most of that trouble went away.

As for the nausea, try ginger ale.  If you are vomiting a lot, talk to the Dr.  Mine put me on diclegis and there is NO way I would have made it through 1st and 2nd trimester without it.  I was vomiting like 15 times a day without it.

  • I had mild morning sickness with my second and third pregnancy. Sipping ginger ale and nibbling saltines helped.
As far as the constipation- just yesterday I was so uncomfortable! I ate a Fiber One bar in the afternoon, ate extra broccoli at dinner and drank a ton of water throughout the day and night. After my kids were in bed I got on the treadmill and walked till I felt the need to go. Getting moving usually helps me to get things moving...

For the morning sickness my OB had me take a unisom with 25mg of vitamin B6. I took it every night before going to bed and it really helped.

  • @tabbyjohnson‌ I've been eating grapes all day. I can't seem to keep them down though. I never thought about freezing them. That's an awesome idea. I'm going to out some in the freezer right now! Thank you!
  • I discovered there really isn't a cure all for morning sickness.  I had it terribly for 9 weeks, and some of the suggestions helped...and some didn't.  I took Diclegis the whole time, but was still very nauseated...I could've asked about Zofran, but just toughed it out.

Try the suggestions, stick with the ones that work, google others if they don't.  Preggo Pops helped for about 1 day, and now they make me shudder at the thought.  What works for you one day may not the next.  Sorry this showed up so late for you!

I take Mega Food Baby and Me prenatals. It's plant based (from whole foods). I take 4 a day and I've never once had issues backing up.

For morning sickness try seeing how much protein you're getting. I aim for. 90-100 g a day. A little bowl of almonds next to your bed (which also help with heartburn), so you can eat a small bit before getting up.
  • And yes to the frozen grapes! That and frozen berries or other fruit has helped a ton!
  • I was bedridden with severe morning sickness until almost week 19. I was taking zofran (4 mg) and diclegis (10mg) 3 times a day, which really helped with the vomiting and nausea (I'm still taking the diclegis for nausea). Even with the medications, I still threw up every night and had zero energy but, like I said, after week 19 it got A LOT better. Different medications work for different people so talk to your doctor and see what he/she recommends. As far as food, try to eat only what appeals to you. Although I had no appetite, I could only stand to eat sweet foods so I was eating pancakes in the morning and cereal for dinner. I hope you feel better soon!
  • I think in the 3rd trimester you can get morning sickness by everything being squished. That's why I think I am starting to get it at least. So I have been trying to eat a lot of small meals throughout the day and that helps. Plus lots of tums!

I just realized how bitchy that sounded. I didn't mean it that way. I shouldn't bump while starving for testing.

I found that the prescription prenatals were easier for me to take.
  • Also, eating ice helped me a little. That may help you?
  • @NagaWater‌ I didn't take it as being bitching girl. No worries. Thank you for the suggestions. My doctor didn't offer prescription Prenatals. I have an appointment with him in the morning so I'll ask him then.
  • The vitamins with iron really slowed me down! Now I take a gummy vitamin with no iron for about 2 days and then one with iron to avoid anemea.

Also, I described to my doctor how everything felt slowed down, and how I feel most nauseous and most likely to vomit when I've eaten. She prescribed Reglan. You might ask your doctor about it. It really helped get things moving and cut down my nausea and vomiting a lot. Unfortunately I experienced a weird side effect (my doc said she never heard of it in her 20+ years of being a doctor), in which I felt extraordinarily tired (I slept 15 hours through at one point). The good news is that being on it for 4 days seemed to jump start my metabolism because I was much more regular afterwards.

I also recommend eating small meals, slowly.

  • My dr gave me diclegis for the nausea. Zofran was great but if you were constipated before - it'll make it so you never poop again. It made me so constipated I ended up in the ER - which was mortifying. Anyway, I now drink copious amounts of milk of magnesia every night. And tons of water. Also, my nausea/indigestion was horrible so I'm taking the prescription heartburn stuff. The nane escapes me but it starts with a "p". It's a miracle worker.
  • @erinkaym‌ I've never heard of raising your feet to avoid straining I'll give it a try if the urge ever hits me! Lol.

I got so desperate last weekend that I tried this. It worked! I've never been so happy to poop in my whole life!
  • I really hope the frozen grape thing worked for you, I never got to try it. But, she always told me it worked for her
  • I ate all of,my grapes but I did save a few. They are in the freezer freezing as we speak.
  • I have no advice for the morning sickness I have yet to experience it and I'm sure eating is the last thing you want to do but to help the poo situation..... my prenatal too does the same to me backs me up. I found that if I eat everyday for breakfast frosted shredded wheat or Cheerios that I will go regularly. If I don't I am backed up.Before figuring that out I would not take my prenatal one day a week so that the following day I would go. Hope cereal isn't an aversion for you. Good luck!!
  • I had both problems during my first trimester and half my second. My doctor put me on zofran for the vomiting, which was a life saver. I lost 40+ pounds during my first trimester and didn't start gaining weight until recently and I'm carrying twins. They eventually told me use milk of magnesia for constipation because I was going days without going to the bathroom and nothing was working. Good luck to you! I know how much it sucked during the first half, and I can't imagine how it is during the third trimester.
  • It seemed to help me taking my prenatal at night after dinner to help with morning sickness. And now I'm uncomfortable at 28 weeks and occasionally constipated. I eat Quaker oat squares to unplug and it usually helps within a day or so. Good luck!
  • I like the gummy prenatals and agree with those that say to try walking. The fresh air, movement and sunshine all do a world of good. Good luck momma I hope you feel better soon.
  • I went to the doctor today and mentioned all of this to her. She gave me a RX for reglan and told me to take magnesium to help with the constipation. She also said since its been so long since I had a successful poo to take some milk of magnesia (spelling ?) to get things going. So the new regimen is colace once a day along with magnesium to keep the innerds flowing. Also, she suggested more protein and fiber. I already eat a ton of fiber so I'm going to supplement with a fiber pill of some sort every day. Thank you ladies so much for all of your suggestions! Oh and @tabbyjohnson‌ the frozen grapes were delicious and seemed to help a little last night! Thanks again! Hopefully the outward flow of solids will reverse itself and I'll stop puking and start pooing soon!
  • I bought a costco sized bag of prunes and eat 3/4 morning and night also
I drink a lot of water. Haven't had any pooping issues as of yet. Good luck mama and I hope you find relief soon.
