Pregnant after 35

I need help

Ok , so im 37.4 weeks , only 2cm & 80% effaced. My dr stripped my membrane last Tuesday , I lost my mucus plug & still nothing . I've been walking , eating spicy food , eating pineapple , drinking castor oil , doing squats & stimulation of the nipples but I've been 2 cm for 3 weeks. Idk what else to do to get this done , but what I do know is im fed up with being pregnant .

  • Is there a reason you're trying to deliver early-ish?  Maybe it's not time yet?
  • Im just really really tired , been having contractions at its worse

  • I agre with marijaa333.  It does get pretty uncomfortable toward the end and it's hard.. but I think the best thing you can do.. and really the only thing you can do.. is relax and take it easy.  Babies go by their own clocks.  :) Good luck to you!

  • Agree with PP, baby always has it's own time table.  My Dr had me using evening primrose oil towards the end of my pregnancy.  You could inquire about that.  It still doesn't start spontaneous labor though, that you'll just have to wait for.

  • you are still so early...I would suggest resolve to yourself that you have time left...maybe a LOT of time left.  you could still have 4 more weeks!!

Stripping membranes never worked for me...and I would only have it done when I was more than a week past due...still nothing.  So it doesn't surprize me it wouldn't work for you so early on.

Honestly as someone who has gone over with every single pregnancy...way over too...nothing is gonna work expect MAYBE pictocin in a hospital if your body is not ready yet!!!

Yeah it can be a bit uncomfortable but remember you will never be able to experience this pregnancy again.  Its a very special thing.. you are the only one who will ever experience it!  So try to enjoy it and cherish this time.
  • Hi-I agree with other PP's.  Baby's not ready yet.  With my first I went over 8 days, like you had my membranes stripped (ouch).

Maybe you could try to do something fun every day until the baby gets here to distract yourself? ie: go to the movies, get a pedicure, massage, head to your favorite restaurant etc.

  • Please stop trying to get yourself to go into labor. Your baby isn't full term yet. Also if your body isn't ready the baby isn't going to come. Believe me, with my second child I spent two days in the hospital on pitocin and nothing happened. Two days I was sent home. My body wasn't ready. Yours isn't ready and every day in your belly your baby is gaining weight and will be stronger when he/she is born. And I imagine the castor oil is just terrible...
  • I was 41 weeks with DD1.  Sex worked for me.  AT least it seemed like it, I had been trying every thing to go into labor and had been dilated 4cm for several days.  DH and I had sex around midnight and I started labor around 3 a.m.  Most likely was all a coincidence, but I always felt like it worked.  good luck.

  • Please do not rush it! Your baby needs to grow some more, and right now, you're the only one to make that happen. Try to enjoy these last few days (weeks?) where the baby is only being held by you.

I know how miserable the end of pregnancy is. After developing a terrible rash with my 1st, I tried every trick I could find-- stripping membranes, sex, excessive walking (even jogging), black kohosh, step exercises, etc etc. NOTHING worked and eventually I was induced. Yet this was for medical reasons.

Be patient-- all of us lucky enough to have carried a baby to term do understand the discomfort-- but there is no good reason for your baby to come this early (from what you tell us).

  • I think after you lose the mucous plug, you should go within a week or so. I read that somewhere but can't remember to be able to link it. Maybe research that and see if that helps relieve your fears of going another 4 weeks.
  • losing the mucus plug dosen't always automatically mean labor.  It can regenerate esp if lost early if it was disturbed by like a membrane sweep.

SOmetimes people think they have lost the mucus plug and its not really the plug either.  After a check or other exam your body makes extra mucus to help basically self clean.  Sometimes this can be mistaken for the plug.
