Maybe I'm being oversensitive, but I am sick of the passive aggressive mommy wars on my FB feed lately. I'm trying not to be the one to get sucked in and comment, but it's really annoying me.
Two days ago it was about how kids shouldn't be in daycare and parents should make sacrifices to stay home with their kids instead of being part of a society that "wants bigger things." Completely ignoring the fact that single parents HAVE to work to feed their kids. Or those parents that prefer to work, or those that really can't survive on one income.
And another post (different person) pops up today: "this is why daycares get bad reputations."
I'm jealous of all you ladies near an IKEA. We have about a 2 hour drive, so in order to go, we have to make it an all day thing.
It's about 35 minutes NW of me, but I still act like it's an all day thing. I have a couple things to return and a new list of things to get that they either were out of last time I went or have discovered since we went in December. I have such a love hate relationship with them!
@MommaP12
That date night sounds like fun. Lately, DH has been totally into watching the Bulls games. Blah. They are on all the freaking time. And now he's got the boys all into the players. Jack is all "Joaquin Noah!" I came Into this relationship knowing dH was a huge Bears & Cubs fan, so we watched a lot of Cubs games & Bears games when we were dating. I married him despite that
I feel this Bulls thing is new and I did not sign up for 5 nights/week of basketball in the winter, over 100 baseball games from April through Sept, Bears games on Sundays....not to mention a bunch of other games to see his "fantasy" players play.
I'm just venting bc we have 1place to watch TV now. It's not like I have something exciting I'm missing out on. Totally caught up on Downton and SVU. I've actually been reading a lot, plus I'm really tired. #pleasedisregardthisramble

Hahaha, this is my life but we haven't added basketball yet. If he decided to take that up as well, I'd kill him. I don't want to watch sports 365 days a year. I read a lot in the summer thanks to the Brewers. Football has been at least reduced to Packers and Badgers only (since we had kids).

@amandad715 my DH is a fan of it all. Luckily, I am a huge bulls (went to rally in Grant Park in 1993 in High School! Ah, the Jordan years...) and black hawks fan. He is die hard all of them: Bulls, Bears, Hawks, Sox. My family is Cubs. We battle there, but I always lose and my son is becoming a Sox fan. *tear
Also? He loves tennis and plays at the 5.0 level, so he's also obsessed with all the "Opens" like the Australian Open on TV right now. So yeah, I married a MAJOR sports freak, but I can usually handle it. So, we decided that we are watching either Boyhood or another movie Saturday night otherwise it will be a battle of HGTV versus Sports.
Add me to the kid takes her shoes and socks off in the car. And usually flings them at her sister. And then takes her barrette out. Now Julia has started imitating it. I really should just put the shoes/socks/hair things in when we get there, but that's just not how my "getting ready" process works, and I'd probably start showing up for things with a barefoot toddler and no shoes in the car. We live 20-30 min from most everything but the grocery store, and I never give them toys to play with- MOTY.
Oh man, I'm so glad DH isn't into watching any sports. I have zero interest in them, and they seem like such a time suck. I guess everyone has hobbies that take a lot of time though.
Party planning question for you ladies. If you make/buy cupcakes for a birthday party, do you order enough for 1 per person. I'm at about 30 people for Brody's birthday (including 2 just under 1, so I don't know what they will eat). So, I'm thinking really 28 cupcake eaters, 12 of which are kids, so I imagine all of them will eat one.
I always end up with leftovers from the adults. DH says get two dozen no matter what and no more. But just my luck, that would be the time that everyone wants a cupcake and we don't have enough.

WWS12 do?
Are you including you and your DH in the 28, so 26 if you guys pass. I would just do the 24. I never eat cake at the kids birthday parties we go to and most of the moms pass too. I always have left overs and I still just do the mini cupcakes.
^ETA, that is assuming you are buying by the dozen. If you can buy 26-28, I would go that route.
ETA2: I always offer up left over cupcakes to the staff of the place that hosted the party. That helps with me taking them all home.

Great suggestions. That included us, so yes we could pass. And great suggestion on leaving them for the staff. The last time I did cupcakes it was a party at home, so I didn't have that option.
Though now I am perusing bowling ball birthday cakes instead of cupcakes. I really need to make a decision.

I would get enough cupcakes for 1 per person.
or get the 2 dozen cupcakes & a cookie platter or fruit platter to supplement.
Personally, I always get cupcakes & a small cake. The kids get served cupcakes first & then everyone is welcome to the cake.

I had our bakery give me a quote for a hippo head cake, I assume it would be similar to making a bowling ball cake. It was over 3 times the price of getting cupcakes. Super cute but the party was already over budget and I couldn't swallow spending that much on a cake for a small 4th birthday party.
I wouldn't get less than one cupcake per person, on the off chance that everyone wants one that day. But then again, I always eat cake at kids birthday parties (though usually I'm sharing with a toddler.) I wouldn't expect babies under age 1 to eat any cake.
I had a facebook friend post a picture of her nieces 3rd birthday. In the few pictures was one of her niece in the car in a booster seat. Not even a high back booster. And the seat belt was behind her back. It makes me cringe so badly. I don't know her well enough to say anything but I feel helpless. It's just NOT safe.
@hmp1 one of my seats isn't dirty and I was thinking it was that color, but it's definitely more of an orange.
My vet is amazing. People talk about getting gouged by vets but I wonder how mine stays in business. $20 is what she charged me today. I talked to her for almost 30 minutes to try to figure out what we can do to help my dog. She prescribed Prozac and said it has a shot at working, but it's really the last thing she can suggest. I really really hope it helps.
We have a lot of critters to try to make feel "special" when the baby comes. The dog, the cat, Winn....
The cat brought another dead bird in the house. SUCK.
The dog's hair cut was $62. I hope between the hair cut and new med, this dog will stop being a fuckhead.
Also, my vet only charges like $125 to clean teeth. It was $10 to put Ernie the ferret down, $30 to put the cat down, and the procedures we had done on the cat before we put him down were all under $450 - and it was a LOT of work.
My brother lives an hour away and paid $290 to put his 20lb dog down. He said it was so expensive because they used a seditive before putting him down. Uh, so did mine.
@tinyhumantoe - I need a vet like yours. We need to take in both our dogs for their annual exams, plus one I'm pretty sure has an ear infection. I know it will be $400-$500 for the visit. I'm currently shopping for a new vet closer to our apartment, but don't want a crappy one either.
@hmp1 - I was trying to figure out if I can make a round layer cake and decorate it like a bowling ball. But that might be out of my league.
@allinjo - I hate when I see people making bad car seat decisions. A friend of ours has her daughter the same age as Brody in a booster. Age-wise, it's within legal limits. But her daughter is much smaller than Brody and he is only 1 lb above the legal weight for being in a booster. It bugs me everytime I see a picture of her in the car.
Since DD started wearing shoes (just before 1), she's taken them off during every car ride. Socks come off too. It drives me bonkers. Within 5 minutes of the drive, I can guarantee to hear the velcro. Shortly after that she starts giggling because she has her socks on her hands like puppets.
At least it's making me feel better that Aedan isn't the only one! He also loves to put them on his hands. Then he throws them.
The children are driving me nuts today. I think I want to take them for a walk this afternoon because it is nearly 40 degrees, but I think DD will throw a fit about sitting in the stroller and I can't decide if it is worth the risk.

From a financial standpoint I'm really annoyed with Obama right now. We have a 529 account set up for Bennett that we contribute to biweekly. Obama wants to do away with the 529 which makes no sense in regards to his tax saving policy. Apparently 70% of people in the US make over $200,000 and that only benefits that percentage vs the poors like me? I'm so confused and annoyed. I don't want to put money into a Roth in my name and then use that for college considering my tax implication is much higher than my childs. Plus I couldn't put money into a Roth for him until he actually earns a W2 form.
I currently sitting on the couch waiting for a certain 2 year old to get her underwear on. I can NOT HELP. In fact, I was told to "Go away mommy!" That was when she had her underwear around her waist because she had both legs in one leg hole.
And now she comes running out of the bathroom with her pants on inside out. I'm scared to even look at the state of her underwear. I'm just going to pretend everything is fine and we will be off to the store. I will never judge a parent again for their child's state of dress.

I'm rambling, sorry, but I'm annoyed.
He doesn't want to do away with it, he just wants to tax it. I agree with the theory that we have to tax the "rich" more, although he is wanting to put the money directly into a different college assistance program instead of paying off debt so I don't like that. And if you have enough income to be saving for college, you have enough to be taxed a little on your profits if you choose to continue to use that savings program.
@hmp1 do you remember what IG user you tagged me in the dreamcatcher photo the other day? I thought I bookmarked that etsy store but I can't find it!
Ha, are you giving up on making yours? AlinnJo is right, it was Lauren.
No not yet anyway, but there is a picture of one that is not a dreamcatcher and not a mobile, it's a stick with danglies, and I want to copy that because I decided it needs to hang at the end of the bed. I put some beads on it and am thinking that's a no-no for over the bed.
Alright guys. I'm going to complain. I had bloodwork done yesterday because I've been bleeding since my bfp. I'm still getting positive tests. Well the nurse finally called me back after hours. My hcg is 62 (which is apparently too low to be 5w), and my progesterone is only 5.5 (dr yesterday said it should be at least 15, but I don't know much about this). The nurse tried to make me feel better by saying maybe I'm only four weeks instead of five, but I know that's not possible. I have a repeat blood draw on Monday. I'm really frustrated and mad. Of course this could all be okay, so this complaint could be for nothing.
@penelopepond I am so sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed that Monday comes back with good results. Sending you all the ((hugs)) and positive thoughts!
